M&P 40 - DCAEK Kit vs. Forward Trigger Kit

Hi Everyone. I've been shooting my M&P40 and have about 500 rounds through it and have decided to get the trigger pull decreased. I've been reading various review and saw the APEX DCAEK Kit did a great job of reducing the trigger pull but I'm not sure if I should just do a full trigger job. I'm hoping people on this forum can share their experiences to help me make a better decision. I'd also like to know that both these kits would work in my M&P 40 or if there is anything I need to look out for. For example, I read that the RAM kit won't work if you have the magazine disconnect. I copied the links to both kits I am considering.

    Thank you for your help.

Other than replacing the stock parts with the D/C AEK parts, how much more work do you envision a full trigger job would entail. It is pretty easy, once you've got the action apart, to just polish up the contact points a bit.

The D/C AEK and the FSS are complete kits in and of themselves. They are aimed at the different needs of the end user. For 80% of folks who are looking to upgrade their M&P's action the AEK will be all they need...but you'll still have the stock hinged trigger, unless you add the AEK polymer trigger.

I'm using the FSS in my IDPA M&P, but it moved me from SSP (Stock Pistol) to ESP (Enhanced Pistol), so I'm competing against 9mm 1911s and such.

I thought the RAM worked with the mag disconnect, but I'm not sure as I removed the disconnect when I installed the action parts and I didn't order a RAM anyway...I trained my finger to reset rather than feel for the tactile reset

FWIW, I have(ok well had but have since removed) the mag disconnect and the RAM went in easily an added value to my love of the platform.

Thank you for the help. Does the DC AEK kit also help with pre travel and over travel of the trigger? I'm guessing it doesn't but wanted to confirm with someone who has more experience.

I believe there are two models of RAM. There is one specific to the mag-disconnect sear housing block used in the pre-2013 M&Ps, which is what I have in my M&P 40.

I don't recall the DCAEK initially making a big difference in terms of takeup and overtravel. However, I later added the aluminum AEK trigger to my M&P 40 and that made a big difference--my 40 much less takeup and overtravel than my completely unaltered M&P 9. In fact, the takeup with the AEK trigger is short enough that for a defensive firearm I personally would not want to go with the even shorter FSS.

If it does it isn't enough to really notice.

When shooting a series of shots, I hardly notice the takeup or overtravel at all, as I'm either resetting or prepping the trigger...so the trigger really isn't hitting either end of it's travel.

I got my FSS kit before they offered the polymer trigger for the AEK. It is the body of the trigger which really determines the takeup and over travel, before and after engagement. Because of the changed geometry of the sear engagement in the FSS kit, engagement is dramatically different...the sear rolls off and the trigger stops
