p226, combat or scorpion

So the Sig p226/p227 is my favorite pistol, I have a 226 nitron in .40 and I'm looking to add a 9mm to the safe. My local shop has a combat and a scorpion in stock. The scorpion is 100 less than the combat. I was just wondering if there are any diffrrnces between the two besides the grips and beaver tail that would make one stand above the other. Thanks.

I would get the combat. or MK-25 if available. But I imagine you are considering these two for the tan/fde color?

Combat has SRT trigger, and coated internals that's all I know..

Sounds like you're going the SSE route.. So I'd consider a Tacops or any other Elite model your FFL can get his hands on.

Pretty much they are the same gun.

I'd probably go with the scorpion just for the sake of not having yet-another-black-gun. I also like the Hogue G10s that it comes with. I've replaced the stocks on all my Sigs with G10s at a non trivial cost...

That being said, the coating on the scorpion is a cerakote-like finish, meaning it is significantly less scratch resistant then the Nitron outer coating on the other Sigs.

Supposedly, there is Nitron under the cerakote-like finish, however I have not been able to verify this as I don't want to buy then scratch up a scorpion to find out.

Cerakote being less scratch resistant has a positive side though, it can be reapplied to repair the scratches. Nitron can not be reapplied without destroying the alloy frame's anodizing (which destroys the frame).

If either one has the newer longer extractor then I would suggest going with the other one. The new extractor is still a bit finicky as Sig has only been making them for a year or so... I have one long extractor Sig, a P229, and it is the only Sig I have that is not at 100%.

The Combat models have hard chrome-lined barrels and 1913 Picatinny rails vs. the SIG rail found on most of their pistols. The only Picatinny-railed Scorpion I know of is the 1911 models. I'm not fond of the beavertail on the P-series pistols, but the Cerakote finish on the Scorpions is a nice feature since the Nitron finish seems to wear faster.

I have the p226 combat and I love it .. The one thing that got me to buy it was the fde color

Why don't you get a conversion barrel. My 226 .40 with a bar-sto barrel shoots 9mm great. You don't even have to get new magazines to shoot 9. But I've found you can squeeze 11 in there if you try hard enough, so careful.

But if you just want another gun, yeah I'd go for the scorpion.

@SoulStealer - what is that middle pistol in your trio? Just a 226 with natural grips? Those wood grips make for a gorgeous gun.

The Combat doesn't have an SRT, but it has a short (i.e. thin) trigger. The Scorpion does have an SRT, but it has the regular, thick trigger.

You could wait and buy the Sig Sauer conversion kit for 9mm when they comeback in stock and save a lot of money instead buying a new handgun with possibility of ending up with a Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI) & Magazine disconnect. Sig Sauer don't have the kits in stock and are probably using them into production.

Well I already have a 227, and a .40 226 both in black so the fde will look good completing the collection wit ha 9mm. Thanks for all the information, I am going sse on either one and I guess I'm just going to have to go look and hold them again to make my final decision.

Doesn't both the P226 Combat and Scorpion have phosphated internals?

And I know the Scorpion have a Short rest trigger which the combat does not, so there is some added value there. Both come with sig night sights.

So the main difference I can think of is the short reset trigger, beaver tail, cerakoted finish, checkered hand grip (vs. serrations on the Combat), Sig accessory rail (vs. 1913 rail on the Combat), and the G10 grips.

I'm not sure about the phosphated internals. If someone knows, please let us know.
