    M&P Catalyst

I have owned my M&P for about a year now and I absolutely love it. Everything about it is great. But as we all know, everyone is different and sometimes we need a little help to be the best shooter we can be. I do not have the biggest of hands and when I am performing speed reloads sometimes I cannot get my thumb just right on the stock M&P mag release without breaking my grip a little bit. Do any of you M&P owners have any experience with the Catalyst from 21st Century Gunfighter? My question doesn't just pertain to M&P owners; how have you felt about getting an extended mag release on your pistol? Was it a waste? Was it a great idea?

On my phone so this is gonna be short....

With my 9c and small backstrap I could use the stock mag release easily. With my fs .40 and medium backstrap the Costa catalyst (looks like he sold the rights or took his name off the product) makes the mag release as comfortable and easy to manipulate as my 9c. Still debating if I want to get a catalyst for my .45.

Had an extended mag release on mg g23 (forgot brand) and did have accidental mag drop(s) while carrying iwb. Have been running vtac extended controls on my glocks lately without any mag drop issues (when I have the opportunity to carry) while using hybrid leather/kydex holsters.

If anything, I see that as an advantage. I do not want my thumb touching the button wihout conscious effort when I do not intend to eject the magazine inside my pistol.

Swap the Mag Release to lefty & use the middle or trigger finger of your strong hand.

I don't see how that's more practical than keeping it on the original side. I'll have to try it

I'm a lefty and I kept my mag release on the left side so I could do just this.

I am a HK UPS owner and I use my index or middle finger on my shooting hand to release the mag.
You would have to have pretty long fingers or large hands to easily release the mag way you are suppose to on most full size gun. Never understood that.
never had the experience on extended mag release, but I would imagine it would get in the way especially during stress.

I'm an M&P owner and I do this^ not all guns come with ambi mags releases so it good to train this way. I do believe this method does not break the grip much as dropping it with the thumb(Just my opinion), in turn, for me at least it's actually faster as well. So with that said, I don't see the catalyst as something worth buying because (for me at least) it doesn't help when I'm dropping the mag with my strong hand middle finger anyway.

Having run standard and costa catalyst I can say that worry re: accidentally hitting the release is a non-issue unless you have overly long thumbs. I take a very high grip on my pistols and do not have issues with accidentally hitting the release with either hand - even when shooting weak side. When shooting strong side my thumb runs parallel to the slide and just above the release - if you look at that little thumb indentation just above the mag release, thats where my thumb lies even when shooting the M&P.

Where the catalyst shines is when actually hitting the release. I still need to break my grip slightly to hit it but that extended portion @ the front of the release makes mag releases "sure". Whereas with the standard release you break grip, hit release, and may sometimes have to hit the release harder or break the grip more in order to adequately release the mag.

Again, Ive never carried the catalyst in a kydex or hybrid holster so I dont know how it would carry or if there is a chance of accidental mag release.

OP, Im not very far from you so if you wanna meet up at a range or something to check out the catalyst let me know.
