Easy 22 for small hands

Of course we'll see what fit best but wanted to check what people here think. I got my son a .22 marlin model 60 for xmas he loves to to the range now and asked about pistols. He tried the p239 I have and the trigger pull is too much for him ( only 9 ). We've looked at the Sig Mosquito , Smith 22A , Ruger Mark III, and the Berreta Neos. Are the pull on these all about the same? Does one have a significant difference in trigger pull?

you can try a Walther P22, when it is in the single action, the pull travel isn't that far. If the pull weight of the trigger is too much for him, I'm not sure what to suggest but get him one of those mushy stress ball from a sporting good store and let him build some muscle.

in my experience, most SA pulls are no effort. Are you talking about DA? I have a mosquito, the DA pull is garbage. The SA is fine but there's a bit of pretravel, its probably perfect for your son

i'm prejudiced towards revolvers and think a nice little revolver .22 would be an excellent pair up with that marlin.

Yup! +1 on that! My son loves shooting my S&W 34-1 round butt.

I used to recommend the Walther left and right for new shooters with smaller hands. But now as my P22 gets it's mileage around 2000 rounds it's reliability is pretty bad. It gets around 3 or 4 jams per magazine (mostly stovepipes and failure to feeds). And that's fully cleaned and lubed with a proper grip.

+ one million on the Walther p-22 -- my kids and even their parents LOVE this gun and you can put in the narrower grip panels. ALSO more accurate than the mosquito. As to the reliability uissue above, My two are still cranking at 300o ropunds +

Thanks for all the help. Wow , 3-4 jams per mag load. His marlin did that with some bulk ammo but with the CCIs it's been working great. The local shop didn't have a bearcat so I didn't even think of it. I'll have to check around and see if there's a shop around that has one.

Pick up an old S&W I frame .22 hand ejector. Most have buttery smooth double actoin triggers but if the one you find doesn't it's not hard to ease it up. The single action on it will be dreamy garaunteed.

Gotta agree on the Walther P22, never had any issues with mine, and that's the only one that does not get cleaned every time I go to the range. It's been reliable as heck and it has been shot a lot. There are two flavors 3" and 5", I have the 5" and it is also very accurate.

I'm interested to know what kind of lube you use on your P22, I've only took mine out a couple of time, it's still fairly new, and I've went through almost 500 rds and literally without a problem. I've been told these P22 mags can't be tossed around or dropped too much on the top, otherwise it may deform, bend or what not and it will start to jam.
The crazy side of me says there's nothing wrong to have a gun jam every now and then when teaching youngsters, this way they will encounter a situtation that require them to either clear a jam themselves or learn how to safely take care of the situation. This way they know what to do if it ever happens, jams are part of the learning phase.

I too recommend the Walther P22 for small hands. I've never stripped it down to clean it since it was new, and it's still going. All I've done is use a Q-Tip to clean out the chamber and feedramp. Once in a while I'll clean the rest of the barrel. I think there was a issue with the first generation magazines causing jams. I only shoot the Remington and Federal High Velocity stuff from Walmart.
