    S&W 686

I'm looking to get 686 in a couple of days. The model the seller gave me is 686 with no dash. I went on doj roster and it showed only 686-6 and 686-7. Any of you guys have any model besides 686-6 or 686-7? I guess what i'm trying to find out is if 686 (with no dash) is legal to own in CA.

Hey, your confusing me by posting here and S&W forum at the same time.

If the gun is in this state, you do a private party transfer with the owner, dash number will not matter.Just go the the FFL holder (dealer) with seller and do paperwork

If the gun is out of the state, you must match whatever is on the DOJ roster. Have it shipped to a 01 FFL holder then start your paperwork.

I posted on S&W forum because I wanted to find out about the gun itself. To ask question about legality in CA over there don't seem promising. Not that the members there don't live in CA but better to get straight to the point here on calguns.net.

The gun is out of state. That kill the deal since it's not 686-6 or -7?

If its a no dash 686, you cannot import it into the state. Too bad, would have been nice.

darn it! The price is great too..just slightly above $300. My FFL worked with them before.

Sometimes a seller doesn't know about the dash number variations, too. Ask them to open the cylinder and look on the frame for the model and dash number.

            all the best,

            Mike
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?
