Bay Area Noob here.
Thinking about my first handgun. I've settled on G19 as my top choice. Considering a few others, but, I feel the G19 is ideal.
I've been searching for the best price. I've seen as low as$450 on the forums here for used gen 2. I've seen $475 for a LNIB PPT, but from a seller that is located 90-120 minutes away and with only 5 posts and no itrader. I've seen a new gen 3 from a dealer for $500 wit two 15rd rebuilds but no ten round mags. I've seen PPT offered as high as$750. Most dealers seem to be above $500, even for used ones, but also not too many available right now.
From what I have read, I could get a 2 year membership to GSSF and get a new pistol for $425. Has anyone done this in the Bay Area, especially South Bay? I glean that only certain dealers participate. Would this be a gen4 or Gen3? Would the dealer charge any additional fees? Besides DROS/tax?
Additionally, my wife is an EMT, which qualifies her for the blue label program as a first responder. According to the glock website, that means $398 for a gen4. Would it still be gen4 here in Kalifohrnia? Would that mean SSE would be needed or would an EMT be exempt from this requirement?
Can anyone recommend the best local FFL to deal with for blue label?
I understand that spouses can pretty easily transfer handguns between each other. Can she make more than one blue label purchase per year? GSSF discount clearly states one pistol per year. Is it the same for blue label? I guess $27 does not make a big difference in the scheme of things, but factoring in an SSE might. The extra mag with a gen4 would be a nice bonus. Also, not having to tell Wifey "you need to go get a HSC and fill out these forms, etc, and go to the dealer, etc, and blah, blah" ..... It might be best not to have to rope her in if it really only means $27 in savings, but then that would mean $70 saved for not needing to join GSSF? Or maybe we should do both? Her blue label and me join GSSF? Maybe get more pistols more often? (Or can she get several at the blue label price, eliminating the need for the GSSF discount?)
Just help me out with some info if you have any. Including, what other reasons should I join GSSF besides the discount?
I just want to save as much dough on a Glock as possible.
Thanks for sharing your experiences and insights.
