Surefire DG Switch for Glock 17 gen 4

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have and use one of these? I am considering getting one and would like to hear the pros and cons.

My big concern is how comfortable it feels and how much it changes your grip. Also, how likely it would be to accidentally turn on your light when you don't intend to activate the switch i.e. clearing your house and accidentally activating the light when you are walking down the hallway?

I had a switch for a 1911. I didn't like it because it didn't give me as much control over the light as the stock switch.

I have the DG swich on a 1911. It really is a double edged sword so to speak. Whats good about it: simplicity and instinctual operating of the light. Not much thinking or motor skills involved, just grab and squeeze and your light is on.

The problem is it's greatest strength can also be a potential con. In a bad situation with stress involved and adrenaline is flowing, there is an increased likelihood, you will be grasping whatever is in your hand with a death grip. This definitely increases your potential for an undesired illumination AD.

Also, there is a reason people favor high cuts underneath the trigger guard. The DG switch essentially negates this potential benefit. Yes it does change how your grip feels when grasping the firearm, specifically your middle finger.

Can it be used effectively? Of course, just like anything else, its primarily a training issue. What you hope to get out of it will be determined by how much you want to put in to learning/practicing.

Thanks for the responses guys. I have only had training (Front Sight) when using a separate handheld flashlight. What is the typical method for activating an X300 without the DG switch?

I currently have the light on my Sig P226 until my G17 gets out of jail. Right now, it is a little hard to activate the light with my trigger finger so I have been practicing with my support hand thumb. It still doesn't feel natural to me though which is why I have been considering the DG switch.

I think pip boy explained what I was thinking. However, with a proper thumbs forward grip, my support thumb is in the perfect position to activate the switch. Maybe try looking at the Inforce APL. That has a button that may work better for you.
