Just bought a Springfield 1911a1, upgrades?

I just picked up a springfield 1911a1 from bullseye and Dan at bullseye was nice enough to let me shoot his SA operator, and man that gun is smooth, I'd like to get mine shooting like his, the smooth crisp trigger pull with almost zero slack. My question is what should be some of my first upgrades to this gun?

I see you got the 1911 hook on. Go with the trigger job. I am not partial to the adj. sights, when was the last time you guys adjusted?

I always tell people that a trigger job is the single best mod they can do, because it will make improvements not associated with any other part of the firearm, and if you shoot well with a bad trigger it will be an amazing difference with a good one. You shouldn't have to concentrate on your trigger to get a good group! Forget all the other stuff. Yes, things like nice barrels help, but unless done as a package with other things they seldom give the results people envision. And the package deal is what I tend to recommend when people ask, because doing just one is usually a waste of time and if doing all the package things separately at different times costs more in the long run, usually a lot more than when all done at once.

Of course, mine already had a trigger job

Try not to fall into the common trap of wanting to replace everything on your new 1911 just to make it "better". Know what you're changing out, and why. You may spend a lot of money fixing things that weren't broken to begin with. Shoot it for at least 500 rounds, then decide what you don't like and want improved.

My 1911 is so plain Jane, but i have no trouble hitting the 8" pepper popper at 50 yards with it.

They could probably order that for you at Bullseye when you pick up your 1911.

Was glad to see you shoot the thing on your purchase day. To bad dan had to let you use the Marine Operator and tempt you like that. When you pickup, we should have the Chip Mckormick 10 rounders back in stock.

Sorry for threadjacking, but Army GI, is that a factory finish or did you do it yourself?

before you do anything, break in the gun... shoot 500 or so rounds and wear in the surfaces before you do anything... the gun will handle differently once this happens... you don't know what the gun will be like until then...

if it is a GI, then just shoot it, if you want to race it out, you will be money ahead in the long run to start with a milspec.

if you shoot indoors, a great upgrade is to use some liquid paper on the front sight that trigger gets better with time

welcome to the 1911 adicts club
