First Handgun

I am looking to buy my first handgun and would like any input on selection. At this point I am leaning heavily toward a CZ 75B. The Baby Desert Eagle and the Beretta 92fs have also been suggested to me. I am looking primarily at 9mm for shooting cost.

Have you handle any of these yet? If not, go and rent them and shoot them first. Why not start with a trusty .22? even cheaper.

My first gun was a 92fs. To me, there is still nothing more beautiful than the plain jane black, usa or italian 92fs. Wish I had one still.

Try them in your hand if you can.

Best thing is to try 50 rounds or more through these recommended handguns to see how it fits you.

+1 to the .22 recommendation. 9mm isn't super cheap.

Id say handle and shoot all three. The Beretta feels and shoots different then the CZ and the Baby Eagle. The Baby Eagle and the CZ were easier to shoot IMO(I own a Baby Eagle also). One down side about the CZ is the trigger, all the newly manufactured ones feel like crap...a crappy trigger can really kill the joy of shooting, as well as hold a pistol back from its true potential. The Baby Eagle has performed flawlessly with 4000rds and the trigger has been great since day one. The Baby Eagle is a clone off the CZ design, incase you didnt know already.

You will not have 1 gun only and most people got revolvers beside their semi, so buy cheap tank durable Ruger GP100 for $350 new, next time buy a semi-

One down side about the CZ is the trigger, all the newly manufactured ones feel like crap...

I'm guessing you have tested a lot of the new CZ75B's right? to be generalizing like that....

Of the three pistols on your list... I'd recommend the Baby Eagle or CZ75b over the Beretta 92. In fact the IMI or CZ would be a tie IMHO. The Israelis make a great firearm, while the Czech is THE original wonder nine.

The two times I've seen new CZs with gritty triggers were both pistols that weren't cleaned properly before their first range sessions.

Like most have said - go to your local range and shoot a box or 2 through these. You will know at that point the one for you.
Most people realize that there are a lot of pistols that interest them. There never seems to be 'the perfect one' so you will end up collecting a few.

When you invest in a gun safe, buy one big enough to hold those future purchases.

+1 on trying out all the guns at the range.

That's how I chose my Sig over the XD for my first handgun. And since I've only had limited experience with handguns, I was also able to choose the caliber.. 9mm.

Find a good local range that rents guns. Make a few trips and try as many models as you can until you start to find out what you like and what you don't.

You need to also give Heckler & Koch a try in addition to Sig. A P2000, USP Compact, or USP in 9mm would make a great first gun. You can't really go wrong with a quality brand - it all depends on what your hand likes the best.

Also, from your original list of CZ, Baby Eagle and the 92fs; are you trying to go for an all-steel pistol?
