    Question on 10 day wait

So I recently purchased a G35 on 8/3. I was very happy with the service and time the clerk spent with me. He even broke down the 35 all the way to show me every part and function. Went the extra mile for sure!

When all was said and done and I was leaving the clerk said see you in 11 days. I was like uhh you mean 10 days right? He said no its 11 days. Stupified I left.

My question.... Can they hold it 1 extra day? All my other purchases have always been 10 days from the time you bought it. I bought it at 12:30 on 8/3 so shouldn't i be able to pick it up at 12:30 on 8/13?

10 days is hard enough but it might kill me to wait an extra day!

Do you think there is a good reason for the extra day?

For everything he did for me and the time he spent going over everything I will wait but just curious as to why that may be?

Many shops are closed one day out of the week, if your 10th day is when theyre closed

I'm sure this topic has been raised many times before on the forum...

Basically the general reason some shops make you wait 11 days is to CYA (I guess technically CTA, cover their ***). They do not want to jeopardize their FFL by having some worker mis-read the pickup time. For better or for worse, they would rather know they are 100% in the clear by having you wait another day. There are reports of the DOJ revoking FFL because they released the firearm 1 hour too early. The DOJ takes the 10 x 24hr periods very seriously.

Some shops do not do this and will allow you to pick it up the minute after 10 x 24 (and I have done this). If you can't stand to wait one more day, buy your gun from a shop that doesn't make you wait.

Bass Pro Shops makes you wait 11 days. It's strictly a CYA move so that it eliminates any possibility of THEIR employee screwing up and releasing the gun before the correct hour. It's definitely a store policy, but I don't think you can go in and demand to p/u the gun on the 10th day. They have you initial the date so you're aware of day 11...my guess is that if you have a problem with it, you're best off doing the DROS elsewhere.

Most (not all) of the FFL's around here do the same. Explanation given to me is the time period starts when the DROS is submitted to the DOJ, and that may not happen when you initially fill out the paperwork. One FFL told me that was done later that day by the boss. I don't know if that's true, but they err on the side of safety and add the extra day.

Many shops have adopted the 11-day wait. Probably because it's too hard for their employees to watch the exact time or the customer is standing at the door before the store opens on the 10th day when his ten 24 hours aren't up until 8 pm.

Ok that makes sense. I knew there had to be a good reason but i had never run across that in the 15+ times i have done this. Granted 10 or so of those were with the same shop but he closed down awhile back.

                Thanks as always Calguns!!!

Just to play safe. Releasing the gun on the 11th day leaves no doubt that the 10-day wait has been satisfied.

FWIW, I have bought many guns from a specific store and they always put the 11th day as my pick up date. I even initialed the papaerwork I always came back on the 10th day and have always been successful picking my gun up. Of course, I had to make sure I satisfied the 10 24-hour requirement.
