    Springfield Range Officer rear sight

I managed to recently pick up one of these pistols and I've noticed that when racking the slide the sharp corners of the rear sight can really bite if I'm not careful. I've been looking at options on swapping out the sight and wasn't too thrilled with the Harrison fixed site. Has anyone had any experience with KenSights? http://stores.homestead.com/KenSight...tol/Detail.bok This looks like it might do the job and it's cut LPA but before ordering it would like to know if anyone has had experience with KenSights and in particular this sight.

Are you looking to bull type shoot, USPSA or just range free time type shoot?

Also you can get a file and round off those corners. I know a lot of guys usuall end up doing that if they don't want to fully replace the rear. But yes that is a common complaint. But that pistol wasn't build to rack the slide reason that sight is sharp. It was build for sanding slow fire bull type shooting. The loaded was more for that type of slide racking reason it has the rounded rear night sights and more tactical deep cut rail grooves. I only know this being torn between the loaded and RO my self hopefully picking up a loaded my self soon

But you can file down the points for a quick fix instead of buying all new sights

I have a Colt Gold Cup that had the same issue and I filed the sharp edges off too, years ago.

This is more or less for range shooting. I was looking at my AA 1911 .22 conversion and noted that the adjustable sight on it was nearly identical to the range officer rear sight except the ears were rounded off. I was looking to see if KenSight maybe just sold the rear leaf but didn't see any listed and that's when I noted the white dot rear sight I tagged above. They've also got a nice looking adjustable night sight for the range officer too. http://stores.homestead.com/KenSight...tol/Detail.bok

So when you guys file off or round off the ears do you remove the sight from the slide first or leave the sight on the slide while you work on it. Sorry if that question seems trivial, I learned a long time ago it's better to ask a stupid question than make a stupid mistake.

You can do it on the slide. Just use a nail file and go slow so you don't scratch your slide. Being parked it will scratch easy. If you don't feel comfortable doing it on slide take it off. Just remember you can't put metal back on. So file file look file file look. To hammer away and they say dam half my sights fine lol

Good to know; after the corners are rounded, what did you use to refinish the sight leaf? Sharpie pen?

I haven't done it personally I just know its a commonthing for most guys. As far as I've seen most guys just leave it. Like the above post most quick patch jobs just run off anyways. It's just your sight anyways no one is really even goin to notice.
