    Techplate Feedback

Can anyone give some feedback on Techplate. I am interested in having a pistol hard chromed.

I had a Gold Cup hard chromed in 1978. It has no wear on the exterior and a nice soft shine on the rails after thousands of rounds.

I have a Colt Special Combat and looking to do the same. I would prefer to do local to save shipping, but only if they do quality work.

Techplate is considered to be quite good (you are lucky to be local). There aren't many options in CA last I researched for quality hard chroming.

They have plated 3 of my 1911's.
I did not take them directly to them, but my smiths did.
Over 20 years later, they are still going strong.

The hard chrome 1911 in my avatar was done by them. They usually do good work but sometimes a less than first rate job does get out- as in my case. They do stand behind their work though and will strip and reapply to get it right.

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

Thanks for the feedback. I called them up and was on the line with a woman with a attitude. I may just send it east.

If you send it off I can give a personal endorsement for Metaloy as they've done several of my 1911 frames. Beautiful work.

That's exactly who I have been exchanging emails with this morning. They also offer a 15% military discount on services.

I just received my 1911 back from Metaloy and wanted to follow up. The quality of work, turnaround and customer service was perfect. I have attached a couple pictures.

With any hard-chrome job, the quality of the final product is in direct proportion to the amount of prep-work done. If your gun has pock-marks, and rough finished, the hard-chrome will show that very dramatically more. Either your gunsmith or the plater will have to do finish work to get looking right.
