Thoughts on my next hangun?

I know this is one of those questions that people always say "We can't tell you what YOU'LL like!" to, but I want a bit of guidance.

I currently have an SW99 and go shooting once a week. I have shot a DAMN large number of handguns though... but never bought another one.

Now I want to actually purchase another handgun (I'm sure others know what I mean... you have access and can shoot lots of firearms... but actually want one that is "yours" to add to the collection!)

Any thoughts? Should I go with something "totally different" like a 1911 or should I, instead, go with something like a Glock, etc. for the SHTF scenario?

I'd prefer to stick with 40SW unless you have thoughts on "mixing it up" when it comes to ammo.

If you want to go 40 I suggest glock.

If you want 45 I say 1911 no doubt

9mm..? There is a whole slew out there of good choices.

Also your intended use HD/SD/CCW/Range Toy is a huge factor in choice as well. But those listed are assuming from your post its a range toy for main purpose.

I like having various calibers and styles. 1911 is my vote for number 2 purchase

if you want a 40 go M&P 40, if you want a 45 go XD 45, Glock or M&P

Question about the M&P 9's, is it not possible to own the hi cap mags because S&W and not produce this handgun until recently? As opposed to Glocks utilizing almost all the same magazines from every model.

Please edumacate I am still learning. =)

For SHTF, Glock 23 or Glock 30.
A 1911 is a must have.

I haven't given the .40 caliber much consideration mysel (I don't own one but have shot a few of them) so my recommendations might be limited to 9's, 45's and 357's...

Try looking into 1911's, revolvers and CZ's as I find them enjoyable. Balance on the 1911's is great, ergonomics on the CZ's are wonderful and revolvers are just plain fun.

You already know that it's preference so take my recommendation for what it's worth. Good luck!

I like to start with a simple question: what is the intended use for the gun? Answering that can sometimes bring sudden clarity.

For example I have a summer carry gun, a cool weather carry gun, a woods carry gun, and a couple of otherwise impractical but really pretty guns that are limited to occasional range use.

i would actually recommend that you go to your range and try out ever model you narrowed your choices down to to lock in your decision.

i would also recommend that if you are going to get your first one, and its the only one you get or only one you get for a while, you should try a kill two birds with one stone and get the most multi use gun for you. by which i mean, get one that you like shooting at the range so you get lots of practice with it, use for home defense and one that has all the options that you would like to have. for instance, if you like a safety, pick one that has a safety as not all handguns do.

Ain't that the truth..

On my 18th (2010) birthday I bought my self a 700... In 2011 I bought a AR...

2013 going on 2014 I now own 10 going on 12 firearms... I never would have fathemed ever owning this many guns in my life time let alone so soon. And I remember when I use to think the guys with more than 8 guns were nuts..

I now understand. But yes OP run while you still can. You WILL buy more.
