    Ruger SR22 or Walter P22

Hello Calgunners. I’ve always wanted a compact semi 22LR in my collection. After a nice long break from the gun scene, I'm now ready to scratch that itch for a new toy. It’s narrowed down to a Ruger SR22 or Walter P22 and both on the DOJ. I’ve held and shot the SR22 and have read many positive comments. However, I have NOT held or shot the Walter P22, and there was not much said about this pistol here at CG. I’m hoping get some good advice on both guns to help with my debate. I’ll be making a trip to the local gun stores in hopes to find a Walter P22 to hold and possibly shoot. Any feed back is much appreciated. Thanks all.

The SR22 is currently not on the roster.

Thanks all. So much for my debate. Looks like i'll leaning towards the walter, unless i want to SSE the ruger. Or maybe, I should go back into hibernation.

This happened to me once with the Ruger SR40c. It went off-roster for a few weeks and then came back on. Had to restart DROS.

Really looking forward to when the Roster is finally eliminated eventually.

But not after wasting a really large amount of our tax dollars.

Interesting I didn't know the SR22 went off roster...I have that now and i love shooting it. Had problems w/ cheap Centurion 22LR but all other ammo feeds fine

I have an older P-22, and it is a fun little plinker, and eats everything I feed it. There is a chap over on RFC that is a P-22 guru of sorts, loves to tinker with them, and has developed a couple of subtle improvements for the older ones. He recently bought a new one, and after completely dis-assembling it, pronounced it better than ever. If I was in the market right now, consider the ATI-GSG 1911, it's a well liked pistol. Her's a link to it.

Consider the M&P22, it's basically a P22 but more reliable on bulk ammo, as I hear.
It is hammer fired (just hidden) and also made by Walther.

The grip is bigger than the P22, so I like that better.

                      M&P22 > SR22 > P22.

I have fired the first two, and have only read reviews of the P22. My friend's M&P 22 is hard to beat, over 650 rounds fired (and counting) out of a brand new gun using cheap bulk ammo, and not a single jam. My Buckmark can't even match that.

The SR22 feels too small for me, and I have small hands. Too much of a toy feeling.

Sure hope the SR22 gets back on roster.

I have owned a P22 for about 8-9 years if not longer.....the first pull plain and simple sucks, worst trigger in my gun safe but after that it's alright. I just bought a M&P .22 and would honestly buy a Ruger SR22 (if it was available) before I bought another P22......just my .02

I cant speak to the Walther but the SR22 is a TON of fun. I actually picked mine up on the 26th (PPT). I did have a couple of fte's and a couple ftf's in the first few mags (winchester copper hp). Then it ran 500 rounds of Golden Bullet without a hiccup. I love this thing for plinking. Hopefully it will be available again soon so you can have a choice.

Ya, I felt the same way when I shot the SR22. I have small hands too and the SR22 felt tinny. I checked out the M&P22 and it looks nice, but it's too big. Meaning, I have the browning buckmark as my full size 22lr plinker. As a contrast to the buckmark, I really want a compact 22lr and i'm hoping the walter P22 is the right fit. I'm head to Target master in milpitas to feel one out.
