Any one revolver - which?

All the handguns I have/are on my wishlist are significantly different - eg no two have the same action type (I like the variety when at the range) - but there's no revolver or glock; I'm pretty the the glock will end up being a G17 - but I know practically nothing about revolvers. It /seems/ that the shortlist I should find a way to try out is:

- a new S&W 686
- a used Colt Python
- a new Ruger GP100 [edited to add this, thanks]

Range use is the only thing I'm looking for - any other revolvers I should look at?

Seems like you are limiting your seach to .357mag/.38 spl ones?

If so, don't skip out on the Ruger GP-100. Although if you find a Colt Python that you can afford, that's not too shabby

Other ones to consider: S&W 586 (blued version of 686), S&W 627, Model 27, Model 28 and the one that intrigues me - 686 SSR

The one exception is that I don't think I'd be interested in a .22LR revolver - I can't really put a rational reason behind that statement though.

OK, thanks for clarifying. I'll still say the same (quoted my initial response below). I think .357mag/.38 spl revolvers are a great start.

The 686 and GP100 guys are going to get in a slap right.

I've fired both the smithy is a little smoother and lighter. The GP100 is a hell of a tank. They both do the same thing essentially and are great revolvers. I've now owned a GP100 for a few years. I didn't see the smith being worth $200 to $250 more than the GP. So I went with the GP and haven't regreted a single moment.

Between the 686/100 I can easily say you won't regret either. Both fine well looking and shooting wheel guns.

for a range toy revolver that is hard to beat

although i might opt for a blackhawk in a cheaoer cal.

OP you should get to a range and rent as many of the above listed options as possible and see what works best for you
