    Why I love S&W...

I have a 617-4 with at least 10,000 rounds down the pipe. Over the last 500, I noticed serious problems with accuracy and that it had started to go out of time.

Sent an email to Smith and Wesson describing the problem, and got a pre-paid overnight tag from them. FedEx picked it up about 2 weeks ago same day using the premier pick-up service S&W pays for so that you don't have to leave your house. Today, FedEx drops off the pistol with a note that they replaced the cylinder and barrel, did a full function test, made sure everything was in spec and gave me back a good as new revolver. Cost to me for the work is zero dollars, done quick, done right, and back to me fast. I love S&W products.

Good to hear of great stories like this, especially about S&W. I currently own 5 S&W firearms and I don't think I am done. Although I haven't had a chance to test their CS, it gives me a good feeling to hear about actual experiences.

Congrats OP and thanks for sharing. Now go shoot 10,000 more rounds

That kind of service is excellent. Makes me want to take my xvr out more often.

Ditto. All my experiences with S&W's customer service has been unparalleled. I'd even rank their CS better than Ruger which is saying a lot since Ruger I think does the best they can at the volume they're dealing at.

S&W only exceeds everyone else because they pay for EVERYTHING. I spent about 10 cents in tape, and that is literally it. I cannot think of one reasonable way to ask for better service. This is my second CS experience with them and it matches the first, which was about 8 years ago.

Ruger for the most part pays for everything too. The difference is.. you gotta kind ask them to pay for the shipping there to be comped when they return you the package. S&W goes out of their way to make sure even that very minor inconvenience is checked off your list. I will say this about Ruger though.. even though people give them a bad rep for not wanting to send minor parts and wanting the person to send the entire gun in for them to install it... in my experience they've been pretty good at sending me small parts that don't require hand-fitting. As long as I explain to them what the issue is and exactly what I need and how I'm going to remedy it.. they've been very good at not asking me to send in the gun and just shipping out the part at no cost.

they do have good customer service.

but their new 686 barrels don't line up with the frame. And its not a alignment issue, its a manufacturing issue. I've noticed this on every new 686 revolvers

And no matter what they do with the gun, its never right.

I believe Springfield Armory is the gold standard in this area. Not only do the pay shipping, but the often go the extra mile while they have the gun. For me the replaced a barrel and bushing but then upgraded the barrel to their competition version at no charge. For other friends I've seen them fix the problem and refinish the pistol because is was well worn, or do additional polishing, or trigger work so it comes back better than new.
I voted against Obama before it was cool.

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!
