    XDs 45

Is a Springfield XDs 45 on the California Gun Roster? I got to try one yesterday and now I want one.

No it is not on the roster because it does not have a magazine disconnect. Only way for you to get one is to buy one from someone who already has it in the state or to purchase online have it transferred to a California FFL through the SSE option which is what I am doing.

My wife's son lives in Nevada. Can he buy one there and then gift it to my wife who could then gift it to me down the road?

Ok, I'm completely in the blind here, what is SSE?

Any sort of inter-state transfer of the type you mentioned is illegal and violates federal law unless it goes through an federally licensed dealer (FFL) in BOTH states, this ensures all federal laws and state laws in both states are adhered to, so the answer is still NO, you can't just do that.

            Ways to get one:

A resident of california who already owns one legally can transfer one to you via private party transfer (PPT).

Resident of another state moves here, establishes california residency, then performs a private party transfer to you.

A California-resident Law Enforcement Officer buys one, decides he doesn't want it anymore, and performs a private party transfer to you.

Resident of another state sells it to you, and you have it sent or hand delivered to a FFL in california licensed to do Single Shot Exemption (SSE) modifications (Essentially modifying the pistol with a custom one shot magazine) before you are allowed to have it transferred to you by the FFL.

A store / FFL decides they want to buy one from a distributor out of state and perform an SSE modification to it, then offer it for sale.

This pretty much covers any/all options you have of getting one. Applies to ANY off-roster handgun.

(Yes one you have taken possession of an SSE modified weapon, it is NOT against the law to have it modified to original factory specs. Often this means just ejecting the single shot magazine and using standard magazines)

Bill you can do an intrafamily transfer where like you asked the son could buy the gun transfer to his Mom and then she can transfer to you but you would STILL need to do the Single Shot Exemption because the firearm is being bought out of state and imported in. Like everyone says your best bet is to just find the weapon you want online and do the SSE through an FFL of your choice. It cuts two steps out of the intrafamily transfer option.

It is perfectly legal to have the son transfer the gun (roster does not apply) to his mother, it is called interstate intrafamilial transfer.

You still need to have the son transfer the firearm through a Ca FFL.

Handguns should be accompanied by a letter of gift, specifying giver's name and relationship (e.g. John Smith, Grandfather), the handgun (e.g. Glock 17 9mm pistol, serial 12345), and the receiver's name (e.g. Little Jimmy Smith).

All of Ca rules still apply ie. 1-30, DROS, etc.

You need to check with the FFL regarding fees and make sure they understand the process as some do not.

Does anyone know of another subcompact 45 that's on the CA roster?

Just look at the roster. They're all listed for public viewing on the doj site.

I was looking at the Glocks but I just don't like the feel. I need to be comfortable with it. The XDS fits my hand so nice. I will get the XDS but might get a handgun on the roster first. At least ill have a 45 while I deal with the XDS transfers.

Look in the Private Firearms forum on this site. That's how I got mine.Click on "Search This Forum". Type in XD-S and then click the GO button. There are two currently for sale. Good luck with your search.
