Black Powder Handguns

How many of you enjoy shooting black powder handguns? I've owned several,
over the years. They have always been a lot of fun to shoot! I currently own
A Uberti .44 M1860 Army revolver and a Uberti M1842 Texas Patterson .36.
Over the years I've had Other 1860's, an 1847 Walker, 1862 Police, 1851 Navy, 1861 Navy and a LeMat. Lots of fun to see that huge cloud of smoke!
If you take the time to develop your loads, they can ba as accurate as modern revolvers. A pain in the rear end to clean, but I don't even mind that.

I've got a Pietta 1862 Police .36 and a .45 Ruger Old Army currently and I used to have a Pietta copy of a Remington Navy .36. I love black powder but haven't shot any in quite a while. I recently got a Kirst conversion cylinder for the Old Army and shot it for the first time last week with .45Colt smokeless rounds and had a great time.

No FFL's or waiting periods makes a little extra cleanup worthwhile for me.

I had a pair of 1858 Remington .44 revolvers. GREAT fun. Sold one of them to a friend of mine, kept the other for me. I don't hardly shoot it because powder and balls at the local shops are so damned expensive...but if I ever get around to buying in bulk I'm sure I'll play with it a whole lot more!

i have an 1858 remington .44 i just bought pyrodex pellets for the first time the worked great speeds up the reloading process. not quite as much smoke a real bp though but less messy in the wind.

I bought a used Old Army recently. Unfortunately I didn't check it closely when I bought it and later discovered the chambers are pitted (improper cleaning) and two of the nipples are rounded off and can't be removed.

The good news is that it is extremely accurate. I used the pyrodex pellets and it is a big improvement over the loose powder that I did back in the 70s, the last time I owned an Old Army. Someday soon I am going to try making my own combustible cartridges with nitrate paper. I'm going to send the revolver back to Ruger to get the cylinder swapped out for a new one. The pitting really bugs me!
