Ranger T Ammo: Cheaper for a reason?

Is Ranger T an "outdated" design like HydraShok? Seems you can get a box of 50 for not alot more than it costs for a box of 20 of other SD rounds.

Ranger T is part of their current LE catalog. Perhaps Ranger Bonded is eating part of their sales. I like T-series and have always thought it to be a good value.

So it seems that bonded is supposed to perform better through barriers and non bonded is supposed to have better expansion.

The T is the modern version of the black talon or so I've read on the nets.

Ranger T-series is good ammo and for years it was my defensive pistol ammo of choice.

That said, with newer and better designs hitting the market, I have changed with the times and have upgraded my defensive pistol ammo to Hornady Critical Duty. There simply isn't anything that is more effective, under a variety of scenarios. Yes, it's expensive. And yes, the Ranger T that I have on hand is now relegated to "backup" in case I can't get the HCD rounds I need. Well, it's still pretty good stuff. It's just not the best anymore, IMHO.

I believe the Ranger T prices, if they are indeed coming down, are a reflection of competition from the newer bullet designs.

No it's not, that's how they should be sold in the first place.

Newer does not always mean better, they Black Talon/Ranger SXT/Ranger-T/Ranger Bonded aka PDX1 family is probably well past their 6th revision now.

                    Personally, I use Federal HST.

Unfortunately, he doesn't do any tests of the .45acp Ranger T.

Which hollow point ammo to buy is not something Worth worrying about.

                        Here are my three criteria
                        1. Is it a hallow point made by a reputable manufacture
                        2. Does it work in my gun
                        3. How cheap can I buy it

Not even the 45 acp fans boys will say the $1 per round hollow points give you a real world difference than .50 cent hallow points.

As long as this stuff turns out to be reliable in my guns, I'll have all of those points covered with Ranger T.

Ranger T is all I run in my throated 1911. Really all I run in any 1911 I own other than ball. It feeds flawlessly through my P345 HD gun as well.

Only other HD ammo I use is Federal HST.

It's not so much that the Ranger-T's are cheap....We frequently see manufacturers repackage their premium LE rounds into smaller commercial boxes with a considerable price increase.

I use 147gr HST's in my 9mm but for 1911's I heard that the more rounded profile of the Ranger-T's tend to feed better.
