    Sig Sauer Equinox Lever Material

    Hi Sig owner,

I recently purchased a P220 Equinox and upon first inspection, it seems that the takedown, slide catch and decocking levers are made of plastic.

Can anyone here confirm that this is normal? or are the levers plastic looking but it really is aluminum?

    Thanks!

Should be nickel plated steel, I think. I have a P229 Equinox and the controls definitely aren't plastic. Hit them with a magnet and see if they are ferrous.

Plastic? You might want to make a second inspection.

They are stamped steel. The only plastic parts on a Sig are the Hammer stop, Hammer spring boot, grips and the guide rod.

Plastic?! Are you sure it's a Sig?

I know what you mean, they feel plastic. The hammer on my Sigs feel plastic too. I'm pretty sure they're steel or some kind of metal.

Maybe you should have your tactile sense checked out?
What plastic are you comparing it to?
Are you referring to the presence of the mold line?

BTW: SIG hammers have long been MIM

The First Sig I bought was in 1998, It came with a plastic guide rod. After ~ 7000 rounds I changed to a stock hollow guide rod. It still had lots of life left in it, in fact it is in my spares box in case I need it.

The guide rod does one thing only- it holds the recoil spring in place until the barrel locks up. There is little stress on the part at all.

Sig has since discontinued the polymer guide rods. All are now a metal version.

Please supply a picture of your parts in question. With stamped or cast parts you do sometimes get a seam from the two pieces of the mold which creates the same appearance as plastic injection molded parts.
