My dad inherited a revolver from my great grandpa in the early to mid 90s. My grandpa died then. The revolver I believe to still be in my great grandpas name. How can my dad go about selling or trading it in CA today? Info greatly appreciated

In the early to mid 90s my dad inherited a colt trooper MK V from my great grandpa which is his grandpa. How would he go about selling it or trading it in CA? All info is appreciated

Ive asked that same question. But my dad wants an ar15. But he is still not sure of getting rid of the colt or his own S&W mod 25-5 45lc unfired

All your dad has to do is go with his buyer, trade partner to a FFL an do a PPT, easy peezy.

No need for him to do an oplaw prior to selling.

My friend has a similar question... He is in his 50's, a couple decades ago his dad passed away and left him a few guns. Nothing too special -- an old shotgun, an old pistol, and a couple old rifles.

His wife has been hiding these guns away from my friend, because she thought these guns were unregistered (these guns were all older than my friend, he didn't even know if there was such a registration process back in those days?)

Does my friend legally own these guns, and does he need to register them under his name now? And if not, what needs to be done?

(He doesn't plan to sell these guns, but does hope to bring them to the range and shoot a few rounds with them.)

Yup, I forget exactly when FFL's doing the transfer became mandatory. all the state wants to do is get the gun on the books. The DROS from the PPT will do that in the new owners name. all your dad needs as the seller is valid Ca. ID.

For the long guns itwould be worth doing a little Goggle reasearch, most likely they would qualify as being C&R due to likely being over 50yrs old.

The pistol, if not an antique would be fine as well as it is inherited, he could fill out a voluntary registration with the Ca. DOJ if he wanted to, but does not really have to.

Long guns are not registered like HG's.

They were inherited from his dad, so they are legally his. At this point he just needs to shoot them and take care of them.

As stated, he could voluntarily register the pistol and get on the books if he wanted to. If you dont mind, what type of pistol is it?

Just follow proper transport laws, locked case and such.

Take the gun to a FFL dealer.

Meet the buyer at the FFL.

Sell to buyer.

Not a Colt expert by any means, but the "Colt trooper MK V" seems to have been manufactured in the 80's, so I wonder at the great grandpa origin. The 'Trooper' line was introduced in the early 50's, so perhaps a different model?
