Where can I check a serial number?

    Hello to everone,

Alright I work with this guy who says his father is a correction officer and is selling some of his guns. The price he has given me on one of the hand-guns seems to good to be true. Is there anywhere I can check the serial number to make sure its clean before I buy it?

I have to go to work right now, but I will check the thread on my lunch.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Well when you do your PPT DROS, if it passes then all is well. If not, you will hear of it.

If the seller does not want you to DROS, then don't purchase the gun.

Your local LEO may or may not check for you.

Might be worth calling DOJ and see if they can tell you if it's clean?

If he wants to sell you the gun but does not want to do it via an FFL and it's a gun that is required by law for the transfer to be done via FFL, report the person to the Po Po cause there is something fishy going on there..

Go thru a dealer. Don't even risk it.

Did you talk to the correctional officer father, or just the son?

            Thanks for the info,
His father lives down south, so no I have not spoke to him. I have worked with the guy for 6 years now, but you never know I guess.
I was hoping there was something quick and easy I could use, but the paperwork idea should work. If he wants to do it anyother way I will just say no thanks.

            Thanks again, Steve

Don't do it! For the cost of a PPT fee it's not worth breaking the law and becoming a felon. You're risking too much for so little.

Dont do what? As long as I go the legal route if it comes back with any problems its on him not me right? Its a good deal, but I am thinking I would like to pick up a Walther G22 or a Ruger 10/22 instead...

The only problem is that by the time the DROS happens, the cash is already in the sellers hands. If something happens then you have to get the cash back. Bottom line, if you don't trust the seller then don't buy the gun.

If anybody ever offers to forgo a DROS, then you need to run like hell.
