the problem with this thread is that it started with misinformation. the last 4 pages were spent on clarifications of half truths, partly trues and some flat out lies. hopefully everyone is on the same page now.

BAD SIDE:
That is the problem with a lot of threads, until everyone is fully educated on every minute aspect of the Penal Code this "bad info" will continue.

GOOD SIDE:
Hopefully those who posted the misinformation are now a little more well educated and they won't post misinformation on this particular subject again. So not only did the OP get some new knowledge, so did several others.

Yeah, but you've straigtened me out and probably a lot of other people. Can't think of a better purpose for a thread than to clear up misinformation and half-truths. It has helped considerably. Why delete something as important as that?

But I'm not sure it's wise to accuse others of "flat out lies." If there was ignorance in certain areas and statements made that were not true, it was probably be due to ignorance and not because some were being intentionally deceitful. I think people deserve the benefit of the doubt. Pointing fingers does not generate enlightment, knowledge or understanding. It's also detrimental to the the forum.

But not everyone is going to be on the same page - yet. In the future there will be more people in here asking the same questions and others giving inaccute answers. How are we going to treat them? I hope not in an elitist and self-righteous manner.

I thank you for all your corrective input and thanks to the others too.

I'd rather not take my chances with the law, or have to wait in jail and pay an unnecessary bail, or miss work, etc... I'd only have my gun(s) in the car when I am going to the range, or if I was going on vacation.

you see it as a risk only because you don't understand the law, so..your right it is a risk for you.

Why carry them at all, for that matter why even own them, just give them to me and you can drive around in complete security that you won't get busted for those guns. I am willing to carry that weight for you.

What the hell does vacation have to do with it??? PLEASE either get the book that explains the laws in plain english, or better yet, read the laws themselves and make an informed logical decision.

Unless the soap box is necessary for some here, a sticky would be nice. I understand that it would have to have a solid gold disclaimer. There is more than one code to reference, and there are court findings that "cloud" the issue. It would also be nice to respect people who want to take a conservative path in this issue, because not all leos know what the deal is. Not all my handguns are on my CCW permit, and I am not going to put a loaded mag in my car safe with those handguns, EVEN THO I CAN, because on the very odd chance that I get pulled over, I don't want to have to educate a leo, who might be the guy I want to show up when the shtf, but isn't long on booklarnin'.

Or, expect another hundred posts a month about the same thing, and the same confused result.
