    Converting Glock 23C to 9mm

I know there's thousands of threads on this ranging from just swap mags and get a conversion barrel such as Lone Wolf.

However since this is a ported model with frame cutouts so is there anything I should be concerned with using a non-ported 9mm barrel with the same # recoil spring? Edit: is there a ported 9mm conversion barrel?

This would be for range and future class use, not defensive at the moment.

I want to stick to 9mm to have a buddy gun to my G26 so I want it to be as reliable as possible even if not being used as a bedside gun.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

You should have no issues just change barrel and mag.

I use the the 40 mags and work fine in g35. You can use a non ported barrel, it will be fine.

It's definitely as easy as swapping the barrel and mags, and you wouldn't have any problems using a non-ported barrel with a ported slide as the non-ported barrel just negates any benefit of a ported slide.

It's a Glock so it should remain about as reliable as can be but, (although I haven't personally experienced this) I've read reports here and there that reliability issues have come into play with converted Glocks.

Will work fine. The ports are for your ported barrel. It will work fine with your conversion non ported barrel..

But ported barrels won't work wih non ported slides.. If you wanted have a reputable smith port your conversion kit if you feel the need.

I was referring to the reduced mass of the slide I know the holes won't do anything with a standard barrel.

I know these fancy custom M&P's and Glocks people get with slide cuts have to use reduced power springs because of the material removed.

In both the 9mm and .40. both the ported and non-ported factory recoil spring assemblies use the exact same 17 pound weight spring. The very small difference in slide mass has no effect. As to converting from .40 to 9mm, I would use an aftermarket conversion barrel. The OD of a standard 9mm barrel is smaller in diameter than the OD of a .40 barrel. The hole in the end of the 9mm slide is .568" and the hole in the end of a .40 slide is .598". That means there is .030" of extra slop using a standard 9mm barrel. It will function, but you will never get the best accuracy. I use a very accurate KKM conversion barrel in my G23 with 9mm G19 mags. The extractor and ejectors are slightly different between the two calibers, but it still functions 100% for me.

Was going to order the ejector / trigger housing, spring-loaded baring and extractor for G19 but if you guys are having 100% reliability with just barrels and mags I guess I can pass.

Though they're so cheap maybe I'll do the full conversion.
