    Modification of handguns?

Hello everyone, I have a question concerning the legality of modifying a handgun in CA. I was planning on getting a 1911 and was wondering if there were any restrictions on the modifications of it. The reason I ask is because I understand that to first buy a handgun in CA, it must be under the DOJ approved list, but if I modify it by changing parts, is it still considered "legal"? Do I have to submit a handgun that I modified that was originally on the approved list to some sort of testing? Of course, all modifications will stay within the legal restrictions. Are there any parts that are off limits to being changed after the handgun has been purchased?

I plan to buy a nicer 1911, so I probably won't do too much modification. Maybe some scrollwork (I just love the way scrollwork looks) which I doubt is illegal, but I was more concerned with finding out the legality of changing parts, in case I ever decide to in the future. I was thinking of a Nighthawk or Wilson, but I'm willing to take recommendations for higher spectrum CA 1911s.

    Thank you all in advance

Changing out parts in a handgun that you own is definitely legal. The DOJ approved list applies purely to purchasing handguns from a retailer. After it's yours, you can do whatever you want to it.

dont make it full auto(federally illegal without tax stamp),put on a threaded barrel(illegal in CA without special permission) , shoulder stock (federally illegal without tax stamp), or a forward grip (federally illegal without a tax stamp).

if you are doing a trigger job or something please make sure you know what you are doing. garage gunsmithing can be dangerous and expensive.

You could always buy one off roster via SSE or PPT. You will be fine with mods as long as you do not remove the serial number or turn into full auto. You may not want to modify the trigger if for CCW. Also no threaded barrel in CA. I know a lot of the Nighthawk 1911s have threaded barrels on their website.
