sw40ve failure to eject

I have a S&W 40VE that i've had problems with it not wanting to eject rounds, i have tried several different brands of ammo ( S&W, Winchester, etc. ) and can not get it to function properly. ( even after sending it in to S&W) i was told that it looks like me casings are expanding and could be a barrel problem. I have heard a ton of bad things about this gun but i figure since i already own and it was my first weapon i would like to try and get it running.... anyone know anything on this advise anything i would appreciate it...

So S&W said it might be a barrel problem but sent it back to you without fixing it? Have other people that shot your gun experienced the same problem? Limpwristing is a common problem that will cause your gun to fail.

I was told it could be a barrel problem by a local gunstore when i tried to explan to them. S&W said they went through it and couldn't find anything wrong and sent it back. i have had several differnet people fire the weapon with the same results. ( i have been told about limpwristing alot and made sure to take a basic pistol coarse to know im shooting correctly )

^Hmm....no idea then. Course there are much more experienced people out there than me. If you have no luck here, try the gunsmithing portion of this forum, those guys are great. BTW, I've owned 2 Sigmas and have never had any problems with this platform.

Not to sound like a d***, but did you detail strip/clean the gun when new?
Most guns need to be run kinda wet out of the box to get them going.
Sounds like you have fired many rounds and should have done some cleaning/lubing, just thought I would throw it out there.

Have you had others shoot the gun and get the same symptoms?

Have you collected the spent brass? Does it have any markings that might help diagnose the issue? Scratches on the brass? Any consistent marks or does it look unmarked? Does the carbon on the brass appear uniform?

Are there extractor marks on the brass indicating the pistol is forcing extraction?


Can you field stip the pistol and chamber the fired rounds?

You had s&w made ammo?

And that pistol doesn't need to be run "wet" it shoots fine dry, as well as lubed. That's weird that you have heard horror stories about the gun, seems like everyone likes theirs except the trigger. The sigma is a pretty reliable gun so there must be something majorly wrong in there. But s&w said it was fine.... weird.
Do you shoot glocks in .40 at all?

Yes. I have had others fire the weapon with the same results.

I have started to collect the spent brass and there is a ring that goes around the casing ( almost looks like it stress/stretch marks ) there is a mark on the rim of the round where is the extractor is making contact.

i can field strip and keep the weapon clean/oiled and have chambered a fired round and had trouble getting the spent casing out of the barrel...

Can you post a picture of the spent brass?

You may want to try replacing your extractor spring.
