As long as he's not prohibited and a CA resident, you can PPT him an off roster handgun.

He can also get one in CA legally through SSE.

      Yea PPT is fine.

SSE is only for brand new glock buying from FFL.

And you can bring it into state being you already purchased it. Your only legal issue I see is the mags are probably high caps.

That's what I was thinking... If he bought the 17 out of state, he must be a resident of that state. Right???

I am no lawyer. I'd suggest that you contact a licensed firearms dealer near your CA home and ask them. You *will* have to complete the sales through a licensed dealer. You will likely have to fill out a CA DOJ form first since you are importing it from out of state.

how does that go? i know the laws are vastly different between the two states. here you can buy a handgun private sale at 18, which is how i got my 17 i'm 20. can i transfer it to my friend even though hes 19? cause unless the law has changed you can transfer someone a handgun at 18 if you want to gift it to them

Federal laws prohibits a FFL dealer in transferring a Title 1 Handgun or Title 1 Other firearm to a person under the age of 21 and only allows a FFL dealer in transferring a Title 1 Rifle or Title 1 Shotgun to a person 18 years or older.

Therefore, if the transfer is being done through a FFL dealer the person receiving the handgun needs to be 21 or older.

There is no gift exemption to Federal laws.

CA laws require firearms to be transferred through a CA FFL dealer.

                        Therefore...
No, you can not legally transfer your handgun to your friend who is 19 years of age.

21 years old for a handgun in CA. 18 for rifle or shotgun.

Public Where do I find laws regarding the possession of firearms? I'm not sure whether I have a California record that would prevent me from owning/possessing a firearm. Is there a way to find out before I attempt to purchase one? What is the process for purchasing a firearm in California? How can I obtain a Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) license? Can I give a firearm to my adult child? Can he/she give it back to me later? Can I give a firearm to my spouse or registered domestic partner? Can he/she give it back to me later?

Due to Federal and CA state laws...
