    Pelican Set Up

I recently purchased a Pelican 1550 case and wanted to see if you guys could show me your set up.

I plan on putting in a 1911, Glock and a revolver. It doesn't have to be the same type of handguns. Just want to see if you guys set them up "standing up" , on the side, etc... Pictures would be great.

Also, do you guys use the 2nd foam in the bottom for other things? Maybe magazines? Ammo?

    Thanks.

Timely question! I have the smaller 1450 and have also been wondering how best customize it... Hopefully you'll get lots of responses & ideas.

I've been flying with my case (and contents) regularly on business trips, and have found it to be a super easy process. Great way to de-stress after a long day.
Much better than watching the boob-tube in my hotel room, and much easier than hauling a set of golf clubs!

Not sure if all airlines are the same, but United lets you fly with 11 lbs of ammo in the same case, so I'm planning to customize mine to fit two guns, mags, ammo + accessories.

        Did this yesterday:

        - 9mm P226 with TLR-3, chamber flag, and laserlyte cartridge on left, 22LR conversion kit on right
        - When I've put it back together, there'll be a P238 underneath, in a similar layout, and a spare block earmarked for a Colt XSE in a few months

I'm probably going to replace the foam:

        - came with pick and pluck. This doesn't give good results for cutting (hot wire)

        - the foam's rather soft - I'm thinking of replacing with polyethylene for more rigidity when removing the P226 to get at the P238 (or Colt ~_~)

image.jpgHere is my 1450. I'm pretty happy with the layout. I carry all the extras in the range bag. I just need to put a little foam on the lid.

Was that precut for pistols or did you do that yourself? Looks good!

Did it myself. I bought the case w/o foam as I have some pnp foam already. I put a thin layer of foam in the bottom and trimmed the foam to fit the case. After that I just picked out rows of foam.

Nice setup Lc17. Here's a pic of my 1550, I call it the glock box.

Oh, yeah, there's a thread in the 'best of' forum about making your own hot wire foam cutter; much better results than an electric knife.

If you don't want to make your own, http://www.amazon.com/Proxxon-37080-...words=hot+wire is what I used for mine (borrowed one from a friend

Here's my 1700, outfit for the gorgeous Daniel Defense M4 V1 with a Leupold 3-9x40.

The hotwire from Amazon worked well for the straight edges within 3-4 inches. Finished cutting the lower out with a Kershaw Leek.
