    Proof of Ownership...

I'm planning on taking my handguns over seas to compete in some matches in the Philippines. Where or who do I get official paper work to show that these guns are mine ??? I need official paper work to US customs to be ok'ed to check them in baggage...

Don't you have a copy of your DROS?

You could get a record of firearms.

The DROS and DOJ forms are completely useless. Go to the nearest international airport with a US Customs office and bring your gun and a completed Customs Form 4457. They will check the serial number, make, and model of your gun and sign the form. When you return to the US with your gun, the Form 4457 will prove you had ownership of the gun in the US prior to departing for the Philippines. Without this form, they will assume you are trying to illegally import a firearm and the BATFE will get involved in unpleasant ways. There was a thread last week about going overseas with guns and you should be able to find it with the search function.

BTW, where are you shooting in the Philippines? Is this at level 3 matches? I think the Philippines is part of the SEA Games, but I'm not sure. Anyway, good luck and have fun. Bring along some ammo, up to 5 kg with you.

"overseas". "ownership". But you can sail a ship in the seas.

You really need to spend the money and consult a firearms attorney. For this topic, At best you will only get opinions here and not solid legal advice.

I have personal experience. There is no need for an attorney since I and the OP aren't breaking any laws. This isn't rocket science, but the OP has to be careful to filter out the opinions from the facts. Is it really that rare that California gun owners haven't been overseas to shoot competitions or go hunting that this topic seems like a mystery to most of them?
