Just curious about which is the more popular gun here in california plain and simple. How many of you have converted from glock to XD and vise versa? any specific reason why. I know people are strong supporters for either one or the other just curious which is on top in popularity for civilians.

Glock or XD

I prefer Glock. Have owned the XD45 and XD9 both 4" service models. I sold the XD45 and bought the Glock 21 SF.

I prefer the Glock over the XD.
I like the XD, but it hasn't impressed me enough to leave the Glock camp for it.
I remember back in late-1999, I checked out the new pistol on the block (HS-2000). Liked it and though it was nicely priced at around $350. Then Springfield Armory stepped in, made some cosmetic changes, relabled it the XD and bumped the price up to the $550-650 range. I kick myself for not buying a couple of HS-2000 before Springfield took over. I guess I'm not over that yet.
I'd rather get a S&W M&P than a Springfield Armory XD.Last edited by Quiet; 05-24-2008, 9:59 PM.sigpic

What's better, chocolate or vanilla?
But since you asked what is the most "popular", Glock is clearly the more popular in CA, hell probably the whole nation over XD. It's been around a lot longer too.
Both are beaters (meaning they can take damage and keep on ticking).
As for me, Glock's don't fit my hand. XDs grip is much like a 1911, which I have a few of and shot well. I now have 3 XDs and they're my preference. June 6,7,8th Mike Raahauges hands on shooting fair. http://www.raahauges.com/
Come down south and try both then make the decision for yourself.
I personally liked the XD better so I bought the .45acp tactical.
Both are great guns and you wont be disappointed with either.Comment

do you like apples or oranges better?
everyone is different, please don't tell me youre a mindless lemming and want us to make up your mind for you?
if that's the case and it's only glock vs xd I would take the XD in a heartbeat. it's it's open Sig own all.Comment

I prefer Glock. I think the trigger is better than the XD trigger. I also like the lower bore axis. The XD does have a slimmer grip but the Glock grip fits me just fine when I'm shooting it. Fondling both guns, the XD feels better, but I don't like the way it shoots. Glock has cheaper mags and more aftermarket parts available for it. I think if Glock would offer adjustable backstraps, as opposed to the SF line, they would be a major contender for the next decade, at least. Glock does need to address the issue that many people don't like the grip or the finger grooves. The XD, M&P, HK45 and HK30, Walther P99 (?), and SiG 250 have all recognized how important ergonomics are to consumers, Glock better get on board.
My wife didn't like either, so she got an M&P 9.Comment

When I retired in early '03, I was finally free of the dept's restrictions and I could get what I wanted for ccw. I tried all of the Glock subcompacts having never heard of a XD. I ended up limpwristing with all of them and no matter what I did to stop it, it didn't work.
I also didn't like the feel of the grip or the lack of the ambi safety (I'm lefty). The range guy suggested I try the 4" XD 9mm and I loved it. I ended up buying a XDSC9 and have carried it ccw for over 4yrs. now.
I got mine for $489 out the door with Heinie sights on them from LAPD. Admittedly it was cheaper than from a "regular' gunstore, but they weren't charging any $500-$650. Maybe now, but not then. The prices have gone up due to popularity and material prices.Comment

Glock is more popular nationwide and probably worldwide. The gun is fairly priced, built tough yet simple, very reliable, and just keeps on shooting. Glocks are battle proven and have already proven themselves for both wars and the streets for decades and they simply speak for themselves. I have held an XD9 and XD45 but never shot one so I have nothing to say about it other than it is a nice looking gun. Personally, I prefer Glock over XD.Comment
