What color nail polish color you guys using?

No, its not what your thinking!

I'd like to know what color nail polish works best on the front post of a 642. I shot it today for the fisrt time and loved it except shooting at beige earth color background the front post was hard to see. I found one of by daughters yellow crayons in the car so I marked some on the post and that helped. My friend told me to try some nail polish. So, what color do you guys recommend?

My wife has a candy apple red, burgundy, peach and clear. I just tried the candy apple red but in the house i cant really tell if it will work well or not. Do I need to find a girl who has some lime green?

So, what color do you guys recommend for outdoor shooting?

    Thanks,
    Smitty

If you have a wife that has candy apple red, you might just be in trouble if you find a girl that wears lime green. Maybe a fiber optic would be less trouble.
    Good luck

Ha ha. I was thinking the exact same thing but you beat me to the punch. In my experience, settle for the best that the wife has. Its much cheaper that way. Or buy her some lime green as a present (like getting her a bowling ball with Homer engraved on it).

Next time you go to WalMart, have your wife get a bottle of the brightest color you can find. Myself, I have red/green color deficiency, so my sights are now florescent yellow.

If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.

Yeah, bright is more important than color, IMO. I do best with bright green or yellow. Candy apple red is actually too dark for me, as are most reds - a pale orange works better for me.

The yellow crayon's not a bad idea, as it would hold in the sight ridges well, is easier to control, clean out, and re-touch than nail polish, and comes in a lot of colors. It might melt if you put enough rounds through at one time, but a 642's not exactly a 100 round/session gun.

It's one of the drawbacks of the 642/442 - you can't replace the front sight without having the barrel milled, which is pricey, and the existing sight is not very good. A friend of mine is a jeweler, and I'm thinking about having him make up a flat gold insert for my 642, since that's popular with a lot of folks, but it's a lot more work than nail polish or crayon.

              Try Bright Sights

Less embarrassing than buying neon green nail polish. I have read that normal eyes sight on neon green the best. YMMV

Hi, you look like the kind of woman that's confident enough to wear lime green nail polish...How could asking a sexy lady that question possibly get me in trouble with my wife? I'm sure both my wife and the other sexy woman would understand and do what ever they could to enhance my front sight post.

So what I'm hearing is that bright colors are better. I cant use fiber optic sight because my gun has a fixed front sight. Paint is my only option.
                thanks,

Testor's Enamel Paint works for me for the front sights.
Enamel Red or Yellow with a White Enamel base first.

Flourescent orange is good unless you are shooting pasties that are orange. I've always like lime green, but fiber optics are even better.

Not enough room to dovetail and mould in a color insert?
