Home defense, range shooting. Want full size handgun. When the son's are older it will be given to them.

I shot the SR9 better than the M&P. I liked the smaller, narrower grip. Very low felt recoil for me as well.

I had no problem with follow up shots. Trigger pull is good with short reset out of the box.

Can't give one gun to two sons... Maybe the answer is both.

I've got bigger hands, so the M&P9 was much more comfortable for me to shoot, and was more accurate for me. Funny that the felt recoil was (for me) much softer with the M&P as compared to the SR9.

              Shoot both at a range?

                G17

Of the two you listed, M&P is the lesser of the two evils. Both have crumby triggers, both are going to have LCI and Mag Disconnect that a Gen3 Glock wouldn't have. M&P has different back straps to fit it to your hand, the Ruger backstrap is a joke, a little rubber strip that you pull out and flip around. I had a SR9c that went back to Ruger twice for light strike problems that never got fixed to my satisfaction, although their customer service is quite friendly. Can't tell you about S&W CS since I never had to send one in for repair.

That said, I am not trying to be a Glock fanboy, I have one left and am in the process of selling it, but it is still a better gun overall IMHO than the M&P or SR9.

I own both. Choose the one you shoot better. For me, it's the Ruger. They are both quality firearms. The Ruger SR series are highly underated in my opinion. I even picked up the SR45. Don't let the Ruger haters keep you from trying one out.

I have the SR9c and I enjoy it a lot. I have shot the MP9 and I wasn't a fan of the stock trigger.

The Ruger SR9 out of the box had a very nice trigger, therefore it will shoot better not unless you spend money on an an Apex trigger for the M&P.

and then get a sr9c later

                        good luck with your choice

SR9 is a great gun for the price.

                          IMHO however, it's:

                          1) Glock19
                          2) XD9
                          3) SR9
                          3) M&P9

Just out of curiosity, has the M&P 9 barrel /accuracy problem been fixed? My buddy's has horrible accuracy issues, and I met a guy at my last USPSA match that has sent his back to S&W 3 times and it's still not shooting straight. Both have had 4 or 5 rounds shoot great, then one 6-8" off, a few more on target, then a couple more way off. In both cases, the shooter is well trained and proficient with handguns.
