Sig Sauer 9MM vs. Glock 9MM

What would be the best choice of handgun when all I can afford is $1000.00?
I have shot both. However, I do not know enough to base my purchase based on what I read in magazines. I would really appreciate a "user's POV.
Any thoughts?

Both are great, just depends on which you feel more comfortable with.

I have owned both and enjoy shooting both brands as well. But for me, the Glock has a extra fat grip and finger groves. That platform didn't work for me. I like the SIG and Springfield XDm grips much better.

Also- for me, buying a firearm is a long term investment and I recommend trying that at a range first and see what works and feels best to you.

I did notice that the Glock did not feel right in my hands because of the "wide grip" too.

I would tryout both guns by renting them at the range and decide afterward. Although I learned to shoot with Glocks, later I realized I am much more accurate and had fun shooting Sigs. Different people have different preferences, I know lots of people who loves Glocks, HK, and M1911s.

Today the handguns I own are an M11-A1 Sig and M9 Beretta. Right now, I am trying to get a 228 via GunBroker.com.

Don't worry so much about it. Training, practice, and the added weight of an all steel gun will more than make up for the slight amount of muzzle flip. I shoot both and personally prefer the SIG as my range gun. If you only have $1000 max to spend I would buy the Glock so you can get some ammo to go with it. But if the SIG fits you better then you're just gonna have to save a little more to go play. Ultimately the choice is one only you can make.

I like both Sig 229 .9mm and Glock 19.
It takes some practice for the Glock trigger.
No problem with grips on both.
I can depend on any one of them to be my HD pistol.

$1000 is a certainly an adequate budget for either handgun. Now... What's your budget for ammo?


I have both, plan to keep both, and thoroughly enjoy both. The key for me is, I can justify keeping both (to myself) because they fill different roles.

Ask yourself this question....

As you learn and improve, any chance you might get interested in further improving your skills with a little friendly 'run & gun' competition at your local range (e.g., IDPA / USPSA)?
Every year at the USPSA Nationals, the shooters fill out a survey on what equipment they are competing with. Keep in mind, these guys can afford to be competing with any gun they want.

The numbers are they way they are for a reason. Understanding why might be the key to help you with your decision.

My opinion:

Get a glock and a ghost 3.5# connector. Spend the remaining +-$4-500 on ammo, target, holsters, etc...

I own three fullsize 9mm's two of which are a Glock 17 and Sig P226. If I could have only one it would be my Glock. The ugly bastige is a reliable simpler home that is accurate as well and with a proper grip due to the low bore axis recoil is on par with the metal frame guns. If you an only have one gun what else do you need?

I prefer the glock against a sig. Same trigger pull each and every time and if you do a little work on the trigger you have a great gun.

GLOCK just because its half the price. You will need the money to buy ammo these days
