    New gun new problem

Well i took my new XD 45 out today and put the first batch of rounds through her. Wish i could say how great it went but.....no. I fired only 38 rounds when it FTF and thats when i noticed that the striker rod that pops out the back to indicated there's a round in the chamber was gone. Apparently the black piece of plastic that acts as the guide for this pin broke and the spring ended up bending in half. I talked to a guy behind the counter and he said it was a common problem with XD's. I personally have never heard of this problem before and really liked the XD series of pistols but to be honest this has left a bad taste in my mouth! maybe i'll go brush my teeth, get the gun fixed and get a glock

call up springfield... i haven't read about this problem but then again i don't spend a lot of time on xdtalk (i just stay here, all day long...). i haven't had a problem with my xd9 and i'm experiencing stovepipes with my xd40 tactical (but i think that's due to the aftermarket recoil spring = to heavy for the reloads i'm using)

Wow that's terrible. I've never heard of that happening, send it back and give it a try again, I've got a few thousand through my XD9 and my only problem I've EVER had with it is I keep running out of ammo
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

I had the rod itself break and the gun kept running. It's not a loaded chamber indicator by the way, it only shows the gun is cocked. Mark

I've not heard of this before, thanks for the head sup.

Chalk this up as a reason why you check YOURSELF if a round is loaded in the chamber (or the hammer is cocked), and not to rely on mechanical devices to tell you, since they may fail.

Running out of ammo should be the only problem any gun may have.

That being said, I hope everyone has contacted their Assemblyman/woman to tell them you are opposed to AB2062.

you should listen to anybody BUT the guy behind the counter.
never heard of this though, I have 3 xd's with over 10k rounds between them and not 1 single problem.
I think you got the 1 in a million deal.

FYI Springfield is replacing the gun at no charge including shipping. This makes me feel 55% better only because it still broke on its first outing.

I'm a member of xdtalk and I've never seen that problem mentioned before. As one member said on the thread about it, yours must be the 1 in a million.

SA seems to have done right by you giving you a new gun. I'm surmising they picked up the price of shipping also right. At least I hope they did. Early on with most problems, they would, but when every Tom, Dick and Harry tried to get a free new finish from regular wear, they stopped that.

I bought my XDSC9 in 04 and had a mismatched pair of sights. They replaced the rear one for free and picked up the shipping too.

Good luck with the new gun.
