I will be moving to CA at the end of the year. As I understand it, the Gen 4 Glocks are not available for sale in CA, but I can legally import any that I legally own that were purchased out of state when I move there. Is there a market to sell Gen 4's through a private transfer via FFL? I'm not looking to cash in on the current frenzy by taking advantage of anyone, I'm just wondering if I could legally make a little money to help finance the move and help someone out who is dying to get their hands on a Gen 4 by doing so.

Gen 4 Glocks in CA

Yes you can import them. Yes you can have them. Yes you sell them and make money. I would suggest filing the necessary paperwork to become an FFL first. -
Yes you can bring your off roster handguns to Ca when you move here. You can also sell them via PPT with both Ca parties present. You are required to register your handguns when you move here. Yes there's a market for off roster guns and they can turn a slight profit while still keeping the price fair. Although I think from a legal stand point there's a difference between you bringing your personal property to Ca and importing off roster guns but maybe someone else can clarify.
And welcome to Ca and Calguns.Comment

Just remember, you are bringing your guns here when you move with the intention of keeping them. Then when you get here, you might decide to sell them. The way it sounds, at this point, you have intentions if importing weapons with intention to sell. Probably a big no-no?Comment

Selling as a Private Party
There is a small limitation on the number of occasions of sales; the penal code says PPT is for "infrequent" transactions, and PC 16730 (was 12070 (c)) says
(a) As used in Section 31815 and in Division 6 (commencing
with Section 26500) of Title 4, "infrequent" means:
(1) For handguns, less than six transactions per calendar year.
(2) For firearms other than handguns, occasional and without
regularity.
...
(c) As used in this section, "transaction" means a single sale,The wise man said just find your place

Thanks for the info. Would not be bringing a large number. Would just buy a few here and bring as is (unless forced to leave 11+ magazines behind) to sell to someone as a private transfer at an FFL if they were interested. I suppose that could having the intent to sell could be a problem, maybe best not to do it.Comment

+1Originally posted by avalon42^. I'd think twice before doing it now that you posted on a public forum.
You have now asserted that you do not yet own the firearms but would be buying them out of state with the intention of importation for sale, in California. This is a big no-no.Comment

Yes you can bring them over as personal property. You will need to register these once you become a CA resident. And when you change your mind later on (i.e. decided you no longer want them for yourself), then you can sell via PPT. Be careful on how you approach this.
Good luck with the move! One Way to Post Pics ********** How to Submit an iTrader Rating That Counts ********** Brass for Sale

BTW, this is not the forum for your question. FYI
EDIT: I made the comment above when this was still in the marketplace. Now it is in the right place

I wouldn't worry about it. He just wants to know which handguns would have better resale value in CA if he decided he didn't want it anymore.
Besides, it's not about intent. It's about facts - about what happens.Comment

if you decided to sell some of your personal firearms after moving here via PPT it is perfectly legal, but buying with the intent to sell is not
Gen 4's are gettable, so there's not really a big profit in it, and you're precluded from buying to sell for profit anyway
of course you'd certainly make a lot of new friends and providing a welcome service if you did decide to liquidate some of your personal collection here in CA
and remember, don't do anything illegal,
don't plan on doing anything illegal, and don't solicit any advice on doing something illegal ... law breaking is frowned upon by both the govt. and the law abiding citizenry as well as the membership of Calguns and can get you in trouble
deleting your thread probably ain't a bad idea either
this is all of course just my opinion and worth what you paid,
and not to be construed as legal advice specifically nor advice at all more generally
welcome to CAComment
