Need help with my Kel Tec pf9

I went to the range yesterday to test drive my recently acquired PF9 and I had a pretty big problem with the gun:

About 20 percent of the rounds (at least one per mag) failed to fire. It seemed as though the primers weren't igniting. There was a depression on the primer, yet no bang. I tried four brands, both fmj and jhp, as well as reloads. The gun didn't have any FTE type issues when it did fire, or any other magazine problems. It was just the, presumably, striker/firing pin.

Any words of advice are greatly appreciated!

Need more information here. Is the gun new or used. Did you clean/lube the gun before you took it out? If used, I would go through the gun in depth. I've had some used guns that acted funny and just needed a good cleaning and some lube...then were good as new.

If that's not the problem then I'm guessing the gun is used and the light primer strikes could be due to a weak spring, etc or an issue with the firing pin. I would start with the obvious and change out the springs, if that doesnt work, then the pin...but only swap out one thing at a time so you understand what the problem is (and you dont inadvertently create another)

If the gun is new, send it back to Kel Tec.

From what I understand, the pistol was just fired enough to qualify for a backup duty pistol. When I took it apart to clean it, my buddy and I had a good laugh at how much grease was in the damned thing. I havent taken it out since I degreased it and reapplied a lite smathering ofoil. I'll take the firing pin assembly apart tonight and take a look in there.

clean and degrease the the firing pin channel do not oil it leave it dry , if that does not take care of it call keltec and have them send you a hammer spring

What should I have bpught, the single stack sub-compact 9mm Glock that doesn't exist? Or did I make the right choice by purchasing exactly what I needed while supporting American industry? I don't mean to go on a tyrade, but I have a technical issue that I don't know how to remedy. I'm not looking for insults...

Get used to it... That's all many calgun'ers know. If it's information you are after, join a Kel-Tec PF9 specific forum. Off roster pistol and not a popular one either, you won't have much luck here.

They really like very little oil, maybe a few drops. It's an extremely popular pistol, not sure why someone would think otherwise. They are cheap, tiny and have a great company behind them. I really love my keltecs, just wish I could get more!
If it still fails to fire dry, there may be something wrong and keltec will take care of it for you.

That's what I'm thinking... When I take it to the range after I clean what I expect to be a very grimy firing pin assembly, I'll report back. I have only heard great things about Kel Tec's customer service; it's what attracted to me to the company in the first place.

No, you're right. You absolutely got the right gun, a quality american made product that goes bang every time. Oh wait, it doesn't really go bang every time. good luck.

people like you crack me up. OP, good luck with your gun, I hope you figure out whats wrong with it. I'm sure its a great gun, just like every other quality Keltec product (like the KSG lol).

Send it back if it doesn't work 100% Yes, it's a pain in the *** to send back.
When I got mine a year and a half ago, I had a huge issue with it. Needless to say I had to send it to the factory...

I got it back like a month later with it running 100% It's a great gun when you get a reliable one. I have never had an issue on it since.
