    Glock caliber conversion 9mm --> .40 cal

I know it's possible to convert a higher caliber (40 and 45) to 9mm with a new barrel and magazine, but is the inverse possible? I have a Glock 19 and I am interested in converting it to fire .40 (to act as a Glock 23) for home defense use, so that I can convert it back to 9mm for the range.

If I buy a factory .40 cal Glock 23 barrel and magazine can I put them in my Glock 18 and shoot .40?

I do not believe the slide of a 9mm is large enough for the .40 barrel. I would suggest buying a G23 and a conversion barrel and selling the G19, but keep the G19 magazines. The recoil springs also have different markings when I looked them up for the Gen4's but I have heard they were the same weight but maybe someone with more experience will chime in.

The breech face is too small on the 9mm to take the .40 cartridge.

If you bought a whole .40 top end though, it's possible.

The only way to covert your G19 to a G23 is buy a complete G23 upper(slide and barrel).

.40 is for guys with small dicks. If you can't kill it with a 9mm or a .45, you need a rifle or shotgun period.

Translation, keep your G19 as is and get some good ammo for it like Speer 147gr Gold Dots and your good to go.

HAHAHA. Thanks for making me chuckle.

OP, I was trying to do a "research" on that before (I have a G17) and what I gathered was that I couldn't do an upwards conversion, i.e. 9mm to 40 cal.

Ah, that explains all my .40s. So sad.

Actually, I picked up a G35 so I could shoot "major" in USPSA L10. And I picked up a G23 because I shot a friends and ... darn it, I kept hitting the target! But mostly, it's because I have a small dick. I only use my 9's and .45s when I get excited.

Er Oh yeah, you can't convert a Glock 9mm to .40 as others have pointed out, the hole in the front of the slide is too small in a 9mm for the .40 barrel and the breech face is not large enough. I'm not sure, but I don't know of anyone who sells Glock top ends by themselves. Maybe switch it with some guy who has a G23, but got a p-enlargement done?

Lone Wolf Distribution sells complete 23 slides, but they are currently on back order. Who knows when they will come in.

                  I guess you will.
One thing to remember. That 40 will beat the hell out of your frame. The locking block pins will bend after a while and the only time i've seen locking blocks crack is with g35's that were shot a ton in IDPA. Glocks were designed as 9mm pistols. It took 80K for my locking block pins to bend.

Honestly I would not be shooting the .40 at the range for more than enough rounds to get a feel for it. I would be shooting 9mm at the range. .40 would be for home defense, so I would swap out the slide/barrel and magazine when I was at home. I would not be putting 10k rounds of .40 through the gun.

Glockstore has some slides, about $200. But it has no guts to it so you'd need extractor, firing pin, and other slidey stuff, including a NORMAL barrel (not a conversion barrel) But, that's $200 for slide, $100 for barrel, $50 for slidey stuff = $350. Still a touch cheaper than a whole G19/23 but not for me, I'd rather have the two guns. Oh, and magazines, which currently are lik $30 ... assume a new gun comes with at least one magazine.

                      Just FYI.

Oh, and of course Glock slides are tennifer treated, which is not a process that is allowed to be performed in the US because it involves poison and the blood of unicorns.

                        Another heads-up about the .40.

Pick up an aftermarket recoil spring guide unit, and put in the stiffest recoil spring they sell. It'll lessen recoil and lessen frame battering.

The 9mm and .40 Glocks use the same spring setup from the factory- which makes no sense, since the .40 puts out substantially more energy and generates higher levels of recoil.

Glockstore also sucks butt and doesn't have anything on the website indicating whether or not they actually have something in stock. If you order something and it is on back order, you don't find out until your order either doesn't ship, or you get a partial order where you pay more in shipping than the cost is of the only item they sent that was in stock.
