    Kimber 1911's any preference?

I cant decide which one to get..

    Kimber custom II
    Kimber royal II

The pros and cons are the custom II is cheaper but the royal II looks so much better. I have handled both and they are amazingly smooth and pretty accurate. Will I be sacrificing any quality if I get the custom II? Is the royal II worth the extra money? This will be my first pistol as I just turned 21 a week ago and don't want to skimp as I know I will pay for it later down the road. This will also be under my pillow with some 230 Hydrashoks and of course fun at the range. This wont be my primary HD weapon as there is a tactical 870 behind the closet door with #1 buck. I may be paranoid but ill make through the night.

Get a TLE II. It's the same as a Custom II with nice frontstrap checkering and night sights. It can also be had with a rail as the TLE/RL model.

if you're stuck on getting a Kimber.....I'd go with the TLE.

And I hope you don't mean the part about the pillow literally.

The Royal II sure is pretty, I'd go for a Royal II if you like it.

For pure functionality, I'll agree with the others for the TLE. The 30LPI fronstrap checkering and nightsights are a very nice improvement.

I'd definitely go the TLE/RL II route if I were you. The rail comes in handy for a weapon light. It's not my primary HD handgun, my Sig P220 is my primary HD gun with rail and Streamlight M6. But it's still nice to know I can change that in a heart beat by switching my streamlight onto my Kimber. Just my .02.

the Custom II is the basic Kimber model. It's a great gun IMHO best bang for the buck. You can add just about anything to the gun, match barrel & parts, sights, ambi safety, and the list goes on.....

My range has one that has been shot well over 60,000 rounds and is still shooting.

No not literally. It wont be under my pillow but it will be within arms reach in a quick access case. I've been practicing my time to get to the shotgun. Kick off blankets, get off bed, run to gun, load, 2 and half seconds to get there and load 1 round(snap cap dummy). Also did a night time drill in my home with a airsoft replica which was exhilarating to say the least. Put foam cups as targets all over the house at head level, and do drills all night long till you sweat. The great thing is, you are absolutely safe with a airsoft (put on some clear glasses it will be dark) and the rails and weight are almost to spec and eotech's and flashlights actually mount and hold well for the practice.

Do you prefer front strap checkering and need night sights? I have a Custom II and like it fine. No need really for night sights or front strap checkering as I prefer to see what I'm shooting so a light is better than night sights.

Bought mine in February. Had some issues during break-in, but now around 1,500-1,600 rounds. Very accurate and reliable. Point and shoot accurate at 21-25 yards. Drills 1 big hole easily with 1 mag at 7 yards-12 yards. Shoots as good or nearly as good as higher priced guns.

I like to see what I'm shooting as well.

if you're hard on your weapons, go with the more durable finish... I have 3, one being a gold match that has really gorgeous flats..., I scratched it lightly cleaning the gun...! I don't shoot it as much any more. My favorite is my CDP II pro... once you've broken in your gun, it'll run fine... 400-500 rounds before deciding that you may need work or want to change anything...

Lights are a definite plus but not a necessity. Not saying I'm a vampire and can see in the dark but my house is illuminated like in the movies at night.. which was not the case in my old house. You can look across the room in the dark at a person and see their face. Incredibly creepy typing that and picturing a dead guy staring at me through the window. But I do have a little streamlight next to the bed with its bigger brother.. 3 D cell maglite.

Night sights are the same. Preferred, not necessary.
