I was wondering if someone could tell me the differences from a Glock 34 Gen 3 and a gen 4

Gen 4 has different grip texture, interchangeable back straps, reversible mag release with larger button and a different recoil spring.

All personal opinion. I don't have any issues with the gen 3.

I have 8 Gen 3s and 8 Gen 4s, same model pairs: 26, 19, 17, 34, 22, 21, 20, 29
PROS Gen 4
Smaller grip option
Lower bore axis (G20, G29-see Glock website)
Larger mag release button
CONS Gen 4: more malfunctions overall in the 9mm models especially with the earlier recoil springs. Much better with new recoil springs and apex or lone wolf extractors.

One last thing: gen 4s are much improved and reliable over gen 3s in the .40, .45, and 10mm models with or without lights attached
Gen 3s seem to be beat in the 9mm models

In my opinion, the grip texture & mag release make a great gun even better. I've had both, but I sold the GEN 3. Just to add some flavor for you, here's a few gratuitous pics:

I'll also add that my GEN 4 G17 has over 7k through it, GEN 4 G19 is at 2k & my GEN 4 G34 has a little over 1k through it. ZERO PROBLEMS WITH ANY OF THEM. The late model GEN 3's (2010-1012 IIRC) had just as many reports of BTF as the early GEN 4's did.

Since we're all offering opinions here.. I am hard pressed to pay a premium, via SSE, to buy a handgun that *to me* offers very little over the current available crop of Gen3's or Gen2's. I would not go out of my way to buy a Gen4.

Glocks are 65% of LEO sidearms.

I think they tried to create a "game changer" with a new recoil spring and different grip inserts to acomodate different size hands.
The smallest grip pannel is the same size, as I understand it, as the SF edition.

I purchased a G19 years ago- say 1992-3 as I was cheap and it was a deal.

I love the plafform and I trust my life to the gen 2 and Gen 3 models.

I really don't understand what the gen 4 does other than eliminate Glock making multiple models. IE standard and slim frame.

SSE'd GEN 4 Glocks cost within $50 of GEN 3's at most shops. Some SSE shops even offer SSE'd GEN 4's for the same price as a GEN 3's.

The grip texture, larger mag release & extra magazine were the deciding factors for me, and I'd gladly pay an extra $50 for those 3 items. I'm lucky enough to be able to buy my GEN 4's at Blue Label pricing though.

The differences between Gen3 and Gen4 are minimal on paper. The improved ergonomics do make the Gen4 fit just wonderfully in my hands. For me I'd lean towards the Gen4, but not for a ridiculous price.
