Springfield loaded trigger job

Last week shot the 3 gun up at westend and my pistol work left much to be desired. So i finally bit the bullet and did something about it. My pistol work is fine with my hk but the horribly heavy pull on my springer had to be fixed.
I had already replaced my ils mainspring housing with the s&a mainspring but i didnt replace the internals of the springer and its 30 lb hammer spring. So i ordered the brownells mainspring pin set and some wolff 19# mainsprings. Put those in and ,amazingly enough, the trigger pull dropped considerably. Went to the range and had no issues with light primer strikes on my reloads so im pretty sure im gtg there.
The lighter pull showed another problem, the stock loaded trigger shakes and shimmys like my favorite dancer, Autumn. It had to go. Fortunately i found an ed brown match trigger in a box of parts i was looking through and said what the heck i will try to fit a trigger. Never done it before but what is the internet for. So did some filing, tested the fit, put everything together and it seems good to go. All the safeties work, it dry fires and the pull is even better than before. I will take it out to rahaggees tomorrow to see if it really is GTG.
Nothing else just proud of myself for doing some gunsmithing.

Nicely done.... I wouldn't trust myself to work on my 1911s. I admire those that have the know-how and experience to do so...

Thanks, ive done a lot of remove and replace work before. The biggest thing before was putting fitting a "drop in" wilson beavertail on my norinco 1911, had to remove a lot of metal for it to drop in.

That hardly sounds like a drop-in as opposed to a Gunsmith fit.

SA 1911s are great guns! Here's mine in 9mm. The ILS had to go on mine, but I salvaged mostly everything except for the cap. I had to grind and polish the hammer due to only one side touching. I ended up getting a 2 lb 3 oz pull that was crisp and clean. I readjusted the springs to get a 3 lb pull just to be safe with +p+ loads. The stock hammer, sear and disconnector are good enough for a trigger job.

Man, the only thing I can replace on my 1911's is the recoil spring! Wait, the spring plug and the guide rod, too.

Don nice SA and good job done. JTROKS you have my favorite shooter and it looks good. I see you also had the front strap done. My first 1911 is a SA loaded and man did I mess it up thinking I could work on it. Luckily it was replaceable parts I screwed up and with some reading and help from another calgunner its turned into one great shooter. This is my SA loaded black stainless with C&S hammer kit, Wilson MSH with mag guide and fiber front sight.


My SA loaded 9mm I bought new shot it then replaced the trigger (STI) and a Ed Brown MSH with mag guide chain link design. I shot it some more and then the blade on the rear sight flew off. I called Springfield the next day and got a call tag and off it went. While it was getting the sight replaced I asked them to pin the ejector and then had it sent to their custom shop. I had them blend the magwell,do front strap the same as the MSH, flush cut and crown the barrel, fiber optic front sight and coat the frame,slide and grip safety in black and now it's my absolute favorite gun. now some bad pics.

Thats why I used quotes, I had the part for a couple of years before I learned enough stuff to attempt it. I try not to Bubba too much. I lean toward the Russian Armorers school of gun smithing-if it cant be fixed with a hammer it cant be fixed, not good with a 1911 but can work with an AR.

Some great pistols in this thread- mine isn't so pretty. Scratches and dings from being tossed into dump boxes, holster wear, but scars give character right?

redhemi, that's one good looking 1911. I really like the flush barrel to bushing touch. Gotta do mine like that when I get a bigger lathe. I learned a little bit of gsmithing back when I worked part time at a gun shop.

My SA 1911 9mm is my favorite range gun for USPSA single stack and target shooting.

Can you go into a bit more detail to get the trigger pull down as I'm looking to do the same to my Springfield Loaded? How did you adjust your springs? What parts did you replace exactly? TIA!

Took my springer to the range today. Everything functioned as expected. No issues. Im very happy.

I can tell you what parts to change and how to adjust, but an uneven sear-hammer hook contact will require recutting and polishing. I suggest checking the sear to see if it has even contact points and the condition of the tip, relief cut and hammer hooks. The reason why I mention that is its not a good idea doing a light spring adjustment on a sear contacting on one side only. The result will be a short lived happiness once the hammer follow blues come.
