I picked up my new Talon Government model, and brought it to the range. The gun came with two magazines, a blued ACT-MAG, and a Nighthawk stainless steel; both are eight-rounders.
After shooting about 100 rounds alternating between both magazines, the gun would not go into battery when I inserted a stainless steel magazine. It would not go into battery when the slide was locked back, and I pressed the slide release. And it would not go into battery when the slide was forward and I racked it back. I experimented a little, and tried different ammunition. The problem persisted. I tried placing only seven, and then six rounds in the stainless steel magazine. The problem was still there. But if I only put five rounds or less in the magazine, the gun would go into battery. (I was using Winchester white box, Speer Lawman, and Federal Champion, all 230 grain FMJ).
But when I used the ACT-MAG, I had no problems at all. The gun went into battery every time. This leads me to believe that the problem was with the stainless steel magazine, not the gun. The gun did not fail to go into battery at any point after I shot the first round of either magazine, and I did not have any failures to fire, or failures to eject.
Has anybody experienced similar problems with the Nighthawk stainless steel magazine?
Nighthawk included with the new gun a special offer: six eight-round or seven-round blued magazines (presumably the ACT-MAGs), or five eight-round stainless steel mags, for $111.90. After today's experience, I am going to steer clear of the Nighthawk stainless steel magazines.
