    S&W M&P 10mm

    So there I was....
For some unknown reason I have the urge to add another caliber to my collection. Im NOT a glock guy and prefer the 1911 in .45.
I am a huge fan on the M&P line and have seen quite a few other threads in other sites about a M&P in 10mm. So im sure this is just another pipe dream, but if they did.... I would be on that list to buy one quick and in a hurry.
Now yet another problem..... S&W cant even keep up with the new demand for the M&P shield line, let alone the demand for the rest of the M&P line.
    But I can dream right.

A few SHOT Shows ago, S&W has said they currently had no intention of making a M&P pistol in 10x25mm.

You could get a S&W M&P-45 and then have a custom 10x25mm barrel made for it and then start modifying it and the magazines make it work. This route may end up costing a few thousand dollars, but you would be the only cool kid with a M&P in 10x25mm. The less expensive alternative would be to get an existing 10x25mm pistol (1911, S&W 3rd Gen, S&W revolver, Glock, EAA).

          .
Can't say I blame them for that choice.

Lets face the facts folks, the 10mm is a caliber designed by an expert shooter with niche appeal only to expert shooters.

Joe Q Public gains no advantage using 10mm, and based on my unscientific observation its because Mr. Public has enough trouble hitting the target with 9mm and other existing rounds. Add in the fact that good ammo for most people is not available over the shelf, and it equates to no market worth making the gun for.

I would buy a M&P in 10mm in a heartbeat. I have a Glock 20SF and love it, but I absolutely love my M&Ps. Unfortunately, I don't think they will be coming out with one.

Honestly I think they should put one out. Give Glock some competition. 10mm seems to be most popular with hunters. Most hunters who carry a side arm want something light weight. Glock is the only manufacturer that has a product to fill that role. If smith made a 10 then I'm sure a lot of hunters would buy it. Especially ones who want a polymer 10mm but hate Glock. Just my $.02.

S&W is going after Glocks large market share of LE with the M&P.Few US LEOs carry the G20,or any 10mm for that matter.

Its a niche cartridge, which is a problem because most casual shooters physically cannot buy 10mm ammo-and if they can get it,its not the good stuff. No store in my area sells it,and I've yet to see a gun store which regularly stocks the full power ammo.

Give Glock some competition? As if the 10mm market is so huge. Dream on.

S&W is making plenty of money doing what they do. Why waste resources on a little niche market? It makes zero business sense. If market demand for existing products were lower, thus freeing up production/R&D capacity, while profit numbers remain unchanged (that means higher prices)... then maybe, just maybe, they might think about using that spare capacity to creating new products. But, seriously, that is not the American corporate mindset. Under those conditions, they are more likely to cut back staffing to reduce their expenses and in turn boost profit figures. It's the execs making decisions. They aren't going to make decisions so that you can have a toy on your wish list checked off. They are going to do things the board members and share holders like... as well as land themselves some quarterly bonuses!

It is definitely a novel idea, if for a limited niche of shooters. I will stick to my trusty M&P9 that I can actually shoot accurately and doesn't punish me with heavy recoil.

I had the same urge back in the early 90's. Like you I prefer a 1911 frame and appearance. One day I walked into the gun shop and like a gift from Heaven there was a Colt Delta Elite sitting under the glass. 20 years later it still lives in my safe.

Find one of these and you won't be disappointed.

I used to own its .45 ACP cousin, the 4506. I sold it because the ergos sucked.

The gun is a great piece, and for its time was a very good effort by Smith and Wesson. That being said, I can see why FBI agents had problems shooting the 10mm version. Its not the caliber IMO, its the 1970s era ergonomics. The 4506 has a long and thin frame with slick plastic grips, which leaves my hands with almost NO lateral support. The closest analogy is shooting a 1911 without grips on it.

When I took a shot in DA , the weight of the trigger combined with the lack of lateral grip support meant the weapon would shift through my trigger stroke. I'll never forget the range trip I took before I sold it; I started in DA, and immediately shot the target holder! After thining WTF I finished the mag by putting all the rest of the shots in the same hole.

Decock, slow press.....same problem. A new hole appeared at the very top left of the target paper. The rest of the mag in single action went into the one hole in the middle.
