    Glock out of battery problem

OK I admit it I have a thing for 45's so much so that I have had this Glock 21 for a few years and never shot it. I took it out to the range and realized some bulged cases. Curios i thought but not crazy since my 40 did that till i bought a new barrel. Then wham OOB, left powder on my hand and then I put it away. Anyone else have these issues and what solved them. Is it new barrel time or talk to Glock time.

Thanks in advance for not posting goofy replies I need real help here.

Reloads or factory ammo? If reloads what primers are you using and what is your OAL? If its factory ammo you should probably give Glock a call.

When is the last time you changed the recoil spring assembly?

If the gun in factory configuration does not work with factory ammo, send it back to Glock.

          Everything manufactured can have issues.

Take the barrel out of the gun and drop a round in. See if something is wrong w/ the chamber. Or try to load snap caps and see if it's going all the way into battery. Sounds like an issue for sure. I'm *assuming* it's not the ammo, because you make it sound like you shoot a lot of .45 and don't have other issues. Otherwise, I'd say measure the ammo to make sure it's in spec also.

Started with reloads and switched to factory ammo after 1 magazine to see if those also bulged.

Ammo is painstakingly in spec. I will post pictures of the reloads and factory rounds in the chamber.

                    Limp wristing perhaps?

I experienced a few failures to return to battery with my Glock at first as well. A bit of training resolved it.

Sorry for the crappy iphone pics. I have never had an issue with limp wristing. That is not the issue here.

                          ivan,
how many times have you reused your brass?
are using the grx base sizing die? my cousin uses this and it does weaken the brass. he loads on the low side a reuses his brass only 3-4 times. he now only uses the lee bulge buster.

another alternative would be is to simply change to an aftermarket barrel that has better chamber support like the storm lake barrels.

                          btw, your pictures still suck.
does the picture show how well your cartridge seat on the chamber?

Factory ammo shouldn't bulge like that. I can't tell from the pictures (they're not in focus) but it seems the factory stock barrel might be cut too generously for the feed ramp - there's not enough support for that chamber. I didn't think Glock manufacturing tolerances would vary that much, but maybe they do? Looks like an aftermarket fully supported barrel / chamber is in order, or since the gun was brand new, a trip to the factory to see if Glock will replace the barrel for you.

For reloads, they'll bulge if they've been loaded too many times, but the bulging you're showing in these pictures (to me) is excessive.

I ran over 125,000 reloads thru my G21 and never, ever, never saw a case like that. The pressure is way, way too high for a .45acp (21,000 copper units of pressure versus a .40S&W at 35,000 cups). There is something way wack with your reloads and the first thing to look at is bullet setback. This is especially dangerous using heavy bullets and fast powders, so a 230 gr running Clays or Bullseye, for example. Only a .1" change in OAL can double the pressure and lead to a case rupture or kaboom. A Glock CANNOT fire out of battery, that's internet crap. Prove it to yourself using a snap cap or primed only reloads, they won't do it. After market barrels usually have a little less ramp and therefore more support.
