Thoughts on Uberti revolvers

What are your thoughts on Uberti revolvers. I've been only looking at rugers and smith & wesson but I see a whole bunch of Ubertis everywhere. Is it a yay or a nay?

Uberti makes good black powder guns, but I never tried their cartridge guns.

I have one in 44-40. Very nice gun. Only complaint is they are usually not sighted in and have fixed sights. I had to bend the front sight to get it on target.

My Umberty shot tons of .45s. At first it shot wayyy too high but a fancy twirling demo gone wrong snapped the front sight off Had Bain and Davis put a taller one on and it shot bulls eye X's after that. They are well made forged pistols.

They are mostly black powder cartridge guns. Meaning they shoot black powder cartridges. Just making sure no on thinks you have to muzzle load these guys.

Hmm I shoot my .38 special open tops with standard smokeless powder; did I miss a warning in my owner's manual?

I don't think so. I have the same gun(same caliber too) and although I haven't slung a lot of lead downrange, it seems to do just fine I will be loading black powder cartridges in the future, though.

I have the 45LC single action buntline with an 18" barrel. Very fun.

Uberti in 45 Colt (long Colt) will only handle the downloaded "cowboy loads". They are good revolvers and most models have the traditional 4 clicks while cocking. They do not usually have a drop safety and should only be loaded to 5 rounds, not 6. You keep the empty chamber under the rested hammer (down position) when carrying the gun.
If you get a new model Ruger you can shoot a full power 45 Colt cartridge (Ruger only load) that can approach a 44 magnum in power. Also some of the Ruger Models have conversion cylinders for other cartridges...9 MM switched to 38 Special/357 Magnum or 45 Colt switched to 45 ACP.
The Rugers have a transfer bar safety that allow you to carry with 6 rounds in the chamber. The trigger is not as smooth as true Colt SA action but is still very good.

Used Uberti revolvers are around $300-$350 used. A new Ruger can be had for $500-$550. (Not the Schofield variety of Uberti revolvers). If you want a true Colt Peacemaker type clone then the Uberti revolvers are a good choice in the low price range. If you just want a Single Action Colt Peacemaker looking gun, the Ruger is an excellent choice.

I have A Ruger Bisley Blackhawk 45 ACP/45 Colt, Cimmaron Thunderer (Uberti made) 45 ACP/45 Colt, Beretta Stampede (Uberti made) 45 Colt, Uberti Schofield 45 Colt. All are pleasant to shoot. The Ruger Blackhawk is the most versatile.

I shoot my open top with smokeless .38 special. But since it's meant for .38 special/colt, I probably wouldn't try running a hot .38 through it.

My Commaron Frontier 45 is made by Piatta (SP?). I gotta say it is one beautiful, Well built and very accurate SAA. The trigger out of the box is excellent.

My bro-in-law bought a Schofield about 10 years ago, and complained about it spitting and shaving lead. I broke it down, and found metal shavings in the lockwork left over from manufacturing, and the cylinder stop too wide for the cuts in the cylinder, causing it to not lock up consistently. After fixing these problems, it worked OK. For a $700 gun, I was surprised to find such poor QC. I hope it is better now.

Beretta bought Uberti and improved their QC. They branded them Beretta for a while, and now they've gone back to the Uberti brand.

I have 45C Stampede (more like a Vacquero than the black powder pistols that you see in all the ads).

That Stampede is outstanding, IMO.
