    10mm or 357 SIG?

I'm planning on getting a Glock in either 10mm or 357 SIG (Glocks 20/31). I know the 10mm probably has a fair amount more kick, but does anyone have personal experience to share to help me decide? I don't know anyone who has either. Thank you!

I have a sig in 357/40. Love the 357 round but it is not as common. 10mm even less so. Personally I would go with the 357 as if ammo gets scarce then you can go 40 cal. The 357 is a 100 yard round point of aim.

Go 10mm! It's the biggest and baddest Glock makes. Lots of people shoot .40 out of it if you want to save money - no need to change barrels or mags. But I've always been able to find 10mm for the same price as .40. Even after Sandy Hook.

Plenty of Alaskans use hot loaded 10mm (Underwood, Buffalo Bore, handloads) for defense against Griz and big browns. I wouldn't recommend that with a .357 Sig.

I personally don't think 10mm recoil is bad at all. I recently let a couple girls shoot my full power bear loads with it. After shooting it, both girls went out and bought G20 SF's. They obviously didn't think the recoil was too bad either.

I personally think the .357 Sig is a great round. Our troops should be using it instead of the 9mm. But for a civilian, the ammo is expensive and hard to find - and lacks the power of the 10mm.

The only real negative of the 10mm Glock compared to the Glock in .357 Sig is the frame size. The 10mm comes in the largest Glock frame size (shared with the .45 full size Glock). The Glock in .357 Sig comes in a smaller frame that it shares with the 9mm and .40.

Oceanbob will likely pipe in with some words of wisdom regarding the choice. He would know better than most.

They are actually fairly similar in recoil because the guns are bigger that the 10mm comes in. I used to have a SIG 229 in .357 SIG and it was a real handful because it was so small. I've shot a Col Govt Model in 10 mm and it's a bit sharper in recoil than .45, and I've shot a Glock 21 in .45, so by transference I'll say the 10mm Glock is slightly softer than a Glock ,357 SIG.

But it's hardly a cupcake. If all other things are equal, I'd rather have the 10mm because of it's additional power.

I have a Glock 29. 10mm with a small frame. It kicks but it's not that bad.

If you find yourself in Sonoma County sometime you're welcome to shoot it.

If you get a G20 or G29 you can always get conversion barrels for it to run 9x25, 40 and 357sig.

                Go for the 10mm.

Also you can fire .40 out of a 10mm glock without any modifications whatsoever.

                  10mm is more powerful

I will go with 357sig for the smaller frame size.

I agree. The G20 gives you more room to play around with other calibers.

IMHO .357 Sig is a dying caliber. 10MM is to autos as 41 Magnum is to revolvers. They are not popular rounds but there is a fanatic following that's big enough to keep the round profitable for the ammo-makers.
Plus 10MM is easier to reload.

I currently carry a SIG 229 in 357 when hunting. That being said, I have a Glock 20sf on hold at my LGS right now. Soon that will be replacing my SIG when I'm in the field. The 357 is an impressive round but the 10mm is much more powerful. On a side note, shot some squirrels with the SIG while out hunting yesterday. From 10-20 yards the 125 grain buffalo bore loads I was using were practically blowing them in half. That should give you a small idea of what its capable of.

I sold my 40s and my 357Sigs when I got my first 10mm a couple years back.I have the Glock 20s in slim frame and regular size as well as a Kimber. For what the first 2 did the 10mm does better.I have 2 friends right now looking to sell both their 40s and 357s if you decide to go that way.PM me and I will put you in contact with them. They shot my Glocks last week.Funny.If you need a compact gun stick with a 40 or 9mm.357Sig in a small gun is terrible for recoil felt in the hand.Kind of like shooting a 357 mag in a Scandium frame revolver.I personally hate the muzzle jump in the 40 and the 357.The 10mms are much more controlled.Like the guy above I hunt with my guns.I had shot more than a few coyotes over the years with a 357 Sig out to better than 70 yards.Very effective.Muzzle blast from that ported gun was terrible on my ears. The 10mm has just not gotten out on coyotes.I know for a fact they are effective on 150lb-200lb white tail deer though.
