    My first Glock experience

I got a G26 after reading reviews and making a choice for a pistol that is small enough for pocket carry. I'd never shot a Glock before, but based on reputation believed it was worth buying blind. I'd also not owned or shot a 9mm for nearly 20 years, so all previous experience was worthless because I'm too old to remember that far back. I picked up the G26 today, and went to the range.

    1) I shot 100 rounds of Federal, followed by 50 rounds of Tula, followed by 100 rounds of white box Winchester. No malfunctions. Trigger is awesome compared to many guns I've owned. I shot with two hands, shot with right hand only, shot with left hand only. Although the grip is short the pistol was not awkward to me.

    2) Recoil of this pistol is much greater than the G17 that was in the next lane. We traded pistols for a few rounds, and the G17 felt like I was shooting a 22. The G26 also seemed louder.

    3) Maybe it was just the way I was holding it, but I've got big hands, and the slide bit me. It wasn't bad enough to start bleeding, but I've got to make a concious effort to hold the pistol a certain way or the slide hits the area between by thumb and trigger finger.

    4) I was shooting at about 20 yards and accuracy was acceptable. After the first hundred rounds I was doing pretty good. Had some tight groups.

    5) Loading mags to 10 rds was pretty hard, but the guy in the next lane had a upLula loader, and I bought one as soon as I got back home to the internet. That upLula loader is awesome. I got a pink one because I figured nobody else would want one, and it would be easy to identify vs a black one that somebody might accidently put in their range bag thinking it was theirs.

My initial rating of the pistol would be 10 out of 10 if it weren't for the slide biting my hand. I'm giving it a 9 out of 10. My overall impression of Glocks in general is very high. I can see myself owning more of them in the future.

It's a good choice, almost bought the 27 (I shoot 40 S&W) myself. Might still get it since I like my G23.

    2. Longer barrel in the G17. Lighter grain ammo makes a difference too if you are not used to it, but you didn't say what you were shooting.

    3. Big hands on a subcompact is going to hurt sometimes. Are you using your pinky? Extension? If not, try sliding your hand down a bit while still getting a good grip between your thumb and index. Hickok45 likes the subcompacts and holds it with essentially 3 fingers.

    5. Did you buy yours new? My G23 came with a speed loader. Also, leave the magazine loaded for 2 weeks or so; it's supposed to "break in" the springs.

Is there a reason you didn't go with the G19? Lots of people use that for CCW too, and if you are a big guy, it should still fit in your pocket.

Probably the curved back strap is the culprit here especially for people with large hands. Maybe try a different pistol.

Love the G27 but dislike the G22 and G23. If find them very rough for some odd reason - specially compared to an M&P. Hoping to try a G19 one day.

+1 on grip force, have them on all my Glocks except the G36. Ive got big fat hands and I still have the scar my G17 gave me. Id be completely out of the Glock game if it wasnt for the grip force.
