I find it funny that there is a 4 page discussion on whether a pistol is safe or not. That being said, I bought an XD over the glock, and one of the reasons was the extra grip safety. More piece of mind I guess, but after handling guns for a longer period of time, I don't even think safeties are necessary.
      Have a good day!

Well obviously you got the XD because safety was a main concern of yours, I think you would agree here!?!?!

Glocks are safe, simple, durable, & reliable, it's what I carry. No safeties to think about. If I ever need to use it I just pull the trigger and holds more than a revolver. More available firepower if using Glock 21 mags with a G30.

a few friends have told me stories that having a glock could be a disaster, depending how you would like to carry it. that's all.
Forget all the mixed reviews...the comments like "its as safe as its handler" are somewhat true but dont tell you what you're asking

bottom line is NO the glock is not AS safe as pistol with a manual safety...certain scenarios come to mind like holstering, clothing caught in a glocks trigger can and has caused ND's.

This scenario is very unlikely but has happened, say someone comes up behind you and removes your holstered weapon...the glock is a point and shoot weapon...but if the assailant is not too familiar with guns and safeties and you happen to have something like a 1911 he may try to point and shoot, or have to fumble with the safety giving you time to react

So what your saying is glocks could be safer, they might not be, depending on the attacker and scenario? Right?

My question was more for day-to-day carry, but I kinda know what your saying. It really just depends on what kinda scenario crosses your path. Right?

Im basically saying that generally the glock will be as safe as any other pistol...but if user error does occur like not checking for loose clothing etc when holstering, theres a nice chance your shooting yourself in the leg

for concealed carry theres really not a chance that someone can take your weapon as they shouldnt even know you have it

So what? If they are trying to do you harm, draw the weapon and defend yourself. You aren't always going to be in the perfect situation in life and there are numerous ways to carry without printing.

Get some training, quit asking the same question that several people have answered already. Take a general handgun class and take the 2 day CCW class. This will answer all your questions and concerns first hand. I recommend Firearms Training Associates for both classes.

If you still are not sure, then its not the gun for you and maybe CCW isn't for you either.
                      Its not paranoid.....its prepared.

op, I haven't read every page, so the following advice may have been given:

Go rent a Glock and see if you even like shooting/operating one. Don't just buy something because the group, a friend, the internet suggests it.

I think someone already mentioned, if you have a pre-conceived negative view toward this make of sidearm, it may not be a wise choice for you. Srstho, go try one out at a range and see how it FEELS to YOU. And, if you feel as safe with it as an XD, M&P, 1911, 92, whatever it is you shoot now? Then consider it.

hth, have fun and BE SAFE.

OP are your friends suggesting a "safer" option and if so what are their reasons for thinking its safer?

Glocks are fine, reliable and "safe".

It is as safe as the operator could be.
