    First plastic gun purchase

First post here - long time gun owner. Great forum. Just what I have been looking for.

I currently have 3 hand guns and feel the need to buy something new. Here is what I have: Desert Eagle .44, SW500, and a SW915(9mm pistol).

I'm looking into buying a polymerframe gun. I'm undecided between the Walther P99, HK 2000 or Glock 19. The gun should be confortable for my wife as well. I'm trying to get her interested in guns, but the Desert Eagle and SW500 revolver just scare her off. I've seen pics of the HK 3000 ,but no idea when the gun will be massproduced.

I know that these gun comparisons have probably been beat to death in previous posts. I just can't make up my mind which one to get.

You only have 3 handguns and 2 of them are the SW500 and Desert Eagle????

I don't know if the "rolls eyes" emoticon is meant to be "whatever!", but personally I think having the SW500 and a DE as 2 of the 3 handguns is kinda interesting. Guessing that the gun with the most rounds through it though is the S&W 915.

        What about a Steyr M series? I love mine . . . much better than a Walther.

Hi fendter and welcome to CalGuns.

I'll give you my personal preference among the three pistols you're pondering over.

          - Glock 19
          - HK 2000
          - Walther p99

          Pretty much in that order.

Now the one-fits-all answer for you.....

Shoot all three of the handguns you are considering before you buy. Most of your local shooting ranges "should" have these available for rental. A box or two through each (by you and your wife) can keep you from making a costly mistake and buying a handgun that somewhere down the road you (or the wife) may never shoot for various reasons.

Best of luck in your decision and hope to see more of you on the forum!

She might like the P2000 in 9mm . plus its cheap to shoot... How do you like the S&W 500? im thinking about getting one.

              ditto

Amen to rent, shoot, decide... really no amount of "expert advice" could hope to give you better input/feedback than getting the weapons in you and your wife's hands and punching some paper together.

If you're lucky you'll find one that you both like... if not, HECK EVEN BETTER - you buy his & hers pieces for an early anniversary present!

I love my Glocks (21, 36, 30) but because of my wife's stance/shooting style, they kick brass right into her forehead... so poor me I had to get her own pistol (Colt Lightweight Officer's 45ACP), while I prefer commander & full size 1911's, adding the "lil 45's" to our stable didn't break my heart - although once she "took to" shooting (which didn't take long) adding a Kimber Ultra Carry, and recently a Tactical Ultra Carry for her IS breaking my bank!!

When I used to shoot 9mm, the little Glock 19 was one of my favorite pistols... some things just "feel right" and I shot it quite well from the get go.

Haven't shot the Walther... but did get my hands on my brother-in-law's HK P2000 and it's a quality gun.

              Have fun!!

What, you couldn't handle the Desert Eagle in .50 cal? *****.

                Welcome btw.

The nice thing about the Walther and P2000 is that they both have adjustable back straps. This may help in determing the best fit for multiple shooters.

Good luck with your search. . .any of those 3 guns would be a great choice.

Well, seeing how you have the odd ones (DE .44Mag, and S&W 500) I'd say your polymer should follow in that path - get a FN 5-7

It's not on your list but check out the XD. I like the XD 9 so much I pan on getting the XD 45 ACP in the future. The only gun I have experiance with that is on you list is a Glock. I had a G22 and did not care for the .40. If I would have bought a G17 or G19 I would probably still have it. I do like how simple the Glocks are.

I really hope that comment was made with some sort of humorous intent. If it was , I'd suggest you use a couple of smilies to indicate that.
