9mm ammo?

I just bought a hk p2000 v3 in 9mm.. What is a good brand ammo for target practice and a good brand for home defense?I went to ammo man and got some miltary 9mm ball ammo to practice with for now. I noticed the p2000 isn't supposed to use +P ammo because of greater barrel ware...what should i get guys?

Some good ol' Winchester white box from wal-mart. Then when it comes to HD you should try a few different ones. I use Speer Gold Dot hollow points in 9mm for my HD.

$5.79 per box if 50 if you order at least 10 boxes. Shipping is a pain, tho. I have horrible luck finding WWB at WalMart. Too many 9mm shooters.

You can also get the CCI Blazer with the aluminum casings, but some ranges won't let you shoot that stuff since the casings aren't reloadable. It's a lil cheaper, Natchez has em for 4.99 per box if you buy 20 boxes.

Walmart's WWB, 100 rounds for 11.98, I can't find a better deal anywhere.

I don't think walmart sells ammo in my area, though i could be wrong. I know they dont sell guns. I did pick up some of the blazer ammo.Anyone like the fiocchi stuff in fmj?

I prefer LEO ammo in +P+ for defense. 125 to 147gr. in longer barrels, 115 to 125 grain in short barrels to aid expansion.
Winchester Ranger +P+ and Cor-bon +P are my favorites, but do recoil more than normal loads- it feels like a .40 'lite'.

I know that the Wal-Mart in Oakland doesn't sell ammo (probably for more reasons other than the obvious)

Another thing to note, when picking a HD round, take it to the range and try it out. Don't just load your mag up w/ them and put it away. Actually testfire and cycle a couple mags to make sure it functions well in your gun. You don't want to be in a jam and when it comes time to pull out all the stops your ammo doesn't work w/ your gun.

Hey BPA.... +1 on the recommendations given above..

Since you stated that you just purchased this gun, Im going to assume it was new? If you're planning on using it for home defense, then I whole heartedly suggest shooting a few hundred rounds (at the minimum) to break it in. Shoot everything and anything you can get your hands on (WWB from Wallyworld is a good start)

In all likelihood, you're HK is going to run 100% straight out of the box, but you could be the unlucky guy to get something that wasnt' reliable. Better to find out now than later.

Also, as someone else recommended, whatever self/home defense ammo you decide on going with, definitely buy a few boxes of it and feed it through your gun.. you have to make sure it feeds them reliably..

There are "power/energy/FPS" statistics for the various 9mm rounds based on the weight of the bullet..etc etc.. Personally I just use any of the more "popular" rounds...I had some hydrashoks, but i recently cycled over to Rangers SVT? or SXT..i cant remember.. just feed it through the gun..it gets expensive..but make sure you know it works..
