Springfield vs Para Ordanace compact 1911

Shopping for a compact 1911. Looking at Springfield Ultra Compact (PX9161L) and the Para Ordanace Warthhog (WHX1045S). Anyone with experience with either one... or both? Or maybe something better in the same compact size?

I'm also left handed... checked and both are not available in ambi or left handed models. Anyone know if aftermarket parts are available to make them ambi or left handed guns?

The Springfield mico that I have has an am-bi safety. What do you mean by set up for left handed?

My mico feels great in the hand. Points well, but kicks like a mule! Not unmanageable but defiantly more than a full size.

By setup for left hand I mean... safety (which the Springfield has but not Para), mag release (can it be swapped over to the other side?) and slide release.

I think slide release would be almost impossible... but want to know maybe, by miracle... there is a ambi slide release kit for left hand.

There is a ambi mag release available, http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/339193 . I haven't seen a ambi slide-release though.

However, On my 1911's I only require an ambi-safety. I use my trigger finger to drop the mag and the slide.

You have the exact same issue as me. Scary!

I am torn between a SA PX9805L (OD green Loaded micro with novaks, factory ambi) and a nitehog.
I am also left handed.

Here is what I learned...

the 1911 is really set up for lefties anyway!

The mag release feels natural for me on the left side (as stock), activating it with my middle finger. The slide release is sort of an issue, but the more I hear about it, you are really suppose to "slingshot" 1911's anyway...not release the slide via the lock as in alot of other autos.
The safety leave the only issue. Ambi safety fixes that.

Now, I just can't get over that "fat" feeling the double stack guns have. I am still trying to convine myself it is not a deal breaker.

LOL Glad I'm not alone. First time I saw the hog's mag, I said WTF, what's that fat stubby little thing. But when I gripped the gun... it felt good. Filled up my hands really well.

I normally use my pointer finger to release the slide on the left as well... but the problem is the hog has a HEAVY spring in it... tried it at Ade's today. I like Springfield's ambi safety... just wish the Hog as it as well.

I'm almost decided on the Hog... but just read a few negative posts on combatcarry.com on the inconsistancies of Para and it being always shooting low and to the left (or right... forgot). But also found a few excellent posts. If your interested... link below.

I don;t think this will work with the Para Warthog... it's double stacked... or does it??
